What pinion and spur do u use for a hara/surikarn cyclone for a 4.5 novak brushless. Should i go with the surikarn or hara parts avaliblity wise in australia (Q at angry asian).

I think generally speaking the Hara is more popular. You'll most likely find that things like CVD's are easier to find. But the real kicker is that seeing as the Hara is HPI purple, all the alu bits are already freely available.
Eg. all the suspension spacers, pivot blocks, hubs etc. etc..
The rest of the car is either pro4 - easily attainable, or parts like the spool (most likely to be replaced with another company), or like the rear alu diff(same between both hara and suri)

Gearing wise, the largest spur (64pitch) that will fit without modification is a 108. The motor mount only lets you get a 27pin in there as it won't move closer. That gives you an FDR of 9.75 - with a little grinding you can use a 108/26 combo for an FDR = 10.13

Or if you grind the CF motor plate for a 110 spur (Very minor grinding required) then you can run 110/27 for FDR = 9.93
Or with motor mount grinding - 110/26 for FDR = 10.31

FYI - the 4.5 requires a ratio of around 10.2 for most tracks. That said, i've run it as low as 9.75 (acceleration suffers badly) without a problem. But, it really is happeir running around the recommended FDR of "10...something"

Hope that helps..

Hey angry i went to gear chart .com and searched up the hotbodies cyclone and it says a 108 spur and a 26 pinion gives a ratio of 10.13 so im understanding with the combination wont lack accelleration etc using a 4.5 so i dont i will need to grind....
Is this right can u check on gearchart.com plz?

Try it again mate...

As for the 5.5, i ran mine 108/27..
From memory, i think the 5.5 likes mid to high 9's for the FDR.

I don't get it!!!!!! Why did they supply the kit with a 100t spur gear?!?!?!?!!? Did they think people would run it with 15T motors?!?!?

Never mind….
I run my cyclone wit the 4.5 with 108/27 and I have too much torque.
If I take the car to the limits I need to change tires after 2-3 packs as they are dieing on me too fast….
Since I don’t lack the run-time (16minutes with IB4200) I think about going to over-gearing like 108/29

What do you guys think?

you may thermal at that final ratio. Maybe you should switch motor to the 5.5

you can use the HPI 110 spur with a 27 pinion for a FDR of 9.93 and YES the 110 will work fine and it will not bottom out while you are racing , I ran mine for months with no problems.Or you can use the 108 with a 26 for a 10.13, I havent thermal my 4.5 with either of those ratios.

with the 3.5 probably down to a 25 pinion with the 110 spur but the 4.5 is plenty I think

I don't see how the Andy Moore edition would be different.
he uses the Hara edtion kit.
unless HB markets it in a different color,
numbered autographed editions.
include the MooreSpeed bodies.
etc.

Hi Jamie,
Gearchart assumes that everyone is using 48 pitch gearing. So if you are using 64 pitch, its calculations will not be correct.

the pitch doesnt matter when calculating your roll out or final drive because your pinion and spur will have less teeth with 48 pitch than 64 pitch so it will all be relative.the 108/26 is a 10.125 final drive on this car.
