Steelie Wheels kickstarter project Q&A
Many of you have seen my kickstarter project or my banner ad by now.
After reading some of the discussions, specifically from the VTA racers, I thought I would start a thread to address a couple things and answer questions.
(You can also direct questions to the comments area of the kickstarter page.)
The current project breakdown is this:
if the project reaches $7800 in pledges, we will be able to make one size of wheel: 26mm. If we reach $11,500 we can afford to offer a 31mm wheel as well.
I realize there is some concern among the VTA guys that if they pledge to the project and it only meets the minimum funding goal, rather than the higher goal, they will be stuck with only 26mm wheels and therefore not be able to use them in VTA races. A valid concern.
To be perfectly honest I am kicking myself for not simply setting the goal at the higher number in the first place. I put a significant amount of time into this project, and the low funding goal is my one regret.
I have gone over my budget again today, to see if I can scale back on anything. If I reduce costs as much as possible to scrape by, it will still take at least $10,500 to offer both sizes. If we can reach that mark, I will find a way to make it work.
Now, for those of you who are hesitant to pledge to the project because you are worried about not reaching the higher mark, and being stuck without 31mm wheels... here is my suggestion:
Make a pledge anyway. You can cancel your pledge any time before the project ends. If it comes down to the last day, and we have not hit the higher mark, feel free to cancel your pledge. Give it a shot and see how it goes.
The reality is right now the project has 17 backers, and we need more like 300 in order to actually make the thing happen...
Anyway thanks guys. If you have any questions, feel free to direct them here or on the project site.

Quick Update:
I have decided to also offer the wheels in WHITE so they can be dyed to match your body shell.

I really want to see you get this off the ground Andy. I appreciate how you have taken your professional skills and turned them to make a prototype part for RC. I hope you do well because I want the door to be kicked open for you to do something else. I want to see what else you will be up to.
I have a list of things that I would make for myself if I had your skill set and a rapid prototype printer, but you came up with something many of us have been wanting and waiting for.

I am LOVING the look of these - I wonder...will PAINT stick to them vs dye.
(I have a mental picture of a vintage body w/ SILVER/ALUMINUM Spray Painted wheels - to replicate a "Real" car from my past.)
Very Nice work - I hope the project makes it... I plan to Pledge $50 - 100.

Thanks guys
The wheels are planned to be made of nylon, so as long as the paint will stick to nylon wheels, you shouldn't have a problem.

(Nylon is the best material if you want to dye your wheels. That's why Nylon was chosen)
