Well i just got the car done, and all 4 hub outdrives have an excessive amount of play in them (a back and forth movement) it isnt a lot, but its more than ive seen on any other car, but there arent any shims to correct it. is this the way its meant to be? im at a standstill here...so please help! also, the front steering knuckles move back and forth in the c-hubs a bit.

not sure about the outdrives, but you may want to check and see if there are any bushings in the C-Hub connection. (the screws that hold the knuckle should go through a bushing) Mine have a little play, but nothing extreme

Same here. My sterring knuckles have a slight amount of play but no more than my TC3 had. No play side to side at all in the outdrives though. You get the ecentric holders in the bulkheads in straight and all the way?

wait a minute....you talking about the axles out where they go through the steering blocks? (I was thinking on the diff for some reason). If your axles are sliding in and out make sure you hae the retainer rings on holding the innner bearing on.

If I still am not picturing the right spot you are talking about then sorry lol.

ya...i have the rings on, its not alot of play...but its still seems a bit excessive...something one small shim would clear up, how much play, though, is considered ok?

hmm mines fine. compared to my rs4 rally i can almost say my t1r has NO play at all. but i guess that isnt saying much

I have an FK and an Evo2, the FK is fine but the Evo2 suffers from more play than I'd like.

If you have ever taken off the metal bearing shields, the thin clip that you prise out makes a good shim (I got mine from bearings from an old Schumacher car). Pop the shim into the hub before the bearing - works fine for me.

be careful not to over shim the bearings as I guess any sideways pressure on the bearing would damage them.

Dude- I've seen this before. Assuming your steering bloacks aren't new, the bearings will start to wear out the inside of the block where the plastic spaces the bearings apart. It doesn't take much wear to gain an excessive amount of lateral play in the axle. Try to replace the block(s) and see if that helps. If you've had to replace the bearings lately then that's probably the problem. As far as the blocks moving in the C-hub that's normal- there has to be some play there to keep it free.

yap, i actually thought about using old bearing shields, they are about the right size and thickness.

Not sure pivot ball can be purchased in a single kit, I really don't think so.

I think your best bet is to find an Evo2 FoC owner with a full set of pivot ball suspension that they'd happily sell. Ideally an FoC guy that went on to the FK (like me ).


I've given parts to friends to keep them going, Pivot ball is tougher but still breaks if you are determined enough So I don't have a full set to help you.
