Default Having issues with remote tx

So I am new to rc first off. I picked up a tc4 with a castle 4 pole 4600kv and a hobby world esc 60A-SL. I am using 2cell lipo 7.4 4000 batteries. Using traxxas2.4ghz tx and rx.

So here the issue I am having sometimes randomly the throttle will just cut out as well as reverse. When it happens the steering will be fine. Initially I thought is was because I was using 3c 4000 lipos and it was just overheating. But I am still having issues with the 7.4 lipos too.

If I shut the rx off then the tx it will work fine for a while but then it will happen again.

Any help would be great.

First thing to check is if it is going into low voltage cutoff. That castle tends to use a lot of power, and using a lower capacity(4000 mah) battery you could very well be draining it. How long before it cuts out on you? You could also check to make sure the ESC isn't going into thermal shutdown. What kind of gearing are you using with that motor.

There are many things that can go wrong in any radio/esc setup , but first thing's first: use a capacitor on your receiver, and sand the tips of your transmitter batteries before using them the first time you use them.....It sounds like you are loosing radio signal somewhere...

Checked batteries they are good and getting contact. The spur and pinion gears are high. 78t spur? I was reading somewhere that this motor hates a lower esc amp rating?

True?

Thanks

The 4 poles pull a lot of power. The are usually combined with the castle MMP which is a 120A ESC. So I would bet your ESC is going into thermal protection. I think you said it was 60A correct? And with a 78t spur you are geared pretty high depending on your pinion. So that is going to make a lot of heat. Are you racing or just parking lot bashing. If your just doing speed runs you can run that kind of gearing for a couple passes, but if you steadily on and off the throttle for 5 or 6 min at a tome your going to make something hot. If your racing try and gear it at say 96/44 and check your temps after 2 min. If all is good you can add some teeth to the pinion.

I think you guys mean the gearing is rather low with 78tooth spur gear, and with a torquey 4pole motor, he should have a 70tooth spur in there instead... Also, why get a limited esc??? Always buy a no motor limit esc whatever the extra cost !!!!!

I forgot, the low gearing with a torquey motor, will cause overrevving and heat up the esc for sure: thermal shutdown !!!

I thing I will try to get a 70 tooth. Will I be able to use the same pinion gear?

Remember I am a noob!

A 70tooth spur will accomodate from a 19t pinion to a 33t pinion... You still need a no limit esc though: still too much power for a 60A esc.....

If you have the stock 25t pinion, you can start with it, and see how things go, but the esc will surely fail......

Also , 4pole motors were not designed for touring cars , hence the low kv rating.... You would need something like 4.5fdr to make it go somewhat fast: that's like a 60tooth spur, and 33tooth pinion... For Parking lot bashing, you might want a 5.5t(7800kv) motor geared at 7.2fdr for some decent speed, but you would still need a not limit esc.....

So basically the esc is too wimpy for this motor.

Yes, but the motor was made for short truck Racing, not touring cars......

I agree. I will research some more appropriate motors.
