i need this question answered!
 

hey i dont know if this thread would have anything to do with this section but i couldnt find one that it would go for. i just got a jr xs3 synthesized fm radio. i was wondering if a normal fm reciever that takes crystals would work with the radio. so if you guys can help me out cuz i need to know this so i dont hafta go out and spend another 80 bucks on a new reciever!:spidey: :tire:

didn't it come with a synthesized receiver??

or are you talking about a 2nd receiver?? You might actually find that the difference in prices between a standard and a synthesized reciever might not be all that great - so it might be worth a few extra bucks for the synthesized receiver :D

Simple answer = Yes, but it's limited to what rx crystal you put in it.

But I agree w/spending the few extra bucks for the synth.

I asked a similar question before and didn't get a clear answer.
My thinking was, that if you had a crystal receiver would you have the same amount of interference as with a synth receiver.
Synth is great and all, but for more important races would switching to a crystal receiver but keeping your Synth transmitter help any?

Yes a crystal reciever will work with your xs-3. I've done it myself.

Did you notice less interference with the crystal receiver using your XS3? Or, did you even pay attention to that?

FWIW, I've done it myself as well - I have an XS3, two of the JR RS300's that come with it, a Novak XXTra synth receiver, and a Novak XXL receiver for a micro. All work fine, and I have never had a bit of interference with any of them whatsoever - just make sure you if you are getting a crystal Rx that it is JR-compatible (meaning no Hitec or Futaba receivers.) For the few extra bucks, just go with another synthesized receiver, even if it is used or off Ebay.

There was no difference between the two.

1. There is nothing unique about the signal from your transmitter. What is unique is your ability to change freq without changing crystals.

2. While it will work with a non-synth receiver it is pointless and defeats the purpose of the synth transmitter. You want to be able to switch frequencies quickly without changing crystals. You can only do this if you have a receiver which does not require crystals.

The reason I ask is because there has been much talk about synth being unreliable in a race because even a split second glitch could cost you a race.
Also, if you notice, no pro driver is running synth with the exception of team losi testing the new 2.4ghz system.
