I think there is a good chance quite a few of the option parts are arriving at the same time. Let's hope that's the case

I just posted the following on the XRay website with regards to the gear ratio discussion:

Well, I did some further checking with Mario to verify whether there were any changes made on the production version of the car.

GOOD NEWS, there were!

Mario assures me that the motor mount has been changed and that 15 and most likely 14 teeth pinions will fit when using 87 spurs. Moreover with the optional 3mm chassis Mario indicated a 90t spur will fit without sticking out under the chassis, further increasing the range if necessary.

Man, I've been pretty positive about everything on this FK05.... but an optional 3mm chassis???? So right off the bat, everyone will be ditching their 2.5mm chassis and spend another $80 on a 3mm chassis. That doesn't sit with me well.

do you really need a 3mm chassis for Asphalt though? i believe the car is geared for the Europe/Asia crowd for the most part, other than the front diff on the US versions for the carpet racers.

It would be nice for the rest of the carpet season to have the 3mm. but isnt that just about over?

Well, it's a personal preference more than anything. I would prefer to run 3mm chassis for the outdoor track that I'll be running.

I'm looking into switching to one of these and the asphalt tracks I will be running at I'm thinking the 2.5mm chassis would be perfect. When we go back inside next winter though it will be the 3mm all the way.

So wait is there a 2.5 or 3 mm chassis in the kit? It would be nice to know before dropping $400 on one.

I agree that it would be nice to know ---- BUT ---- will it sway your decision one way or the other?

The kit will come with a 2.5mm chassis. Note however that the wide top deck already makes the car more rigid than before, so the 2.5mm with the new top deck will be more stiff than the FK with the 2.5mm chassis.

TonyV,

How will the 2.5mm chassis with wide top deck compare to the XRC chassis with wide top deck?

Thanks!

In terms of stiffness the XRC with the "old" wide top deck will be significantly stiffer. So for foam racing on carpet the 3mm chassis with the optional top deck that was used at the Snowbirds will probably be best. For outdoor racing as well as indoor racing with rubber tires the 2.5mm chassis will be great I think. But time will have to tell what works best when. We are still testing and learning the car ourselves.
