has anyone ever compared there setups when changing to a thinner chassis only? Basically, when you switched to thinner chassis, all else being equal as far as tires, the class, etc. what changes did you make to get the same kind of grip?

I am running a Photon with the CEFX Evo kit and Spec-R Gear diffs front and rear. The car was built by Bill Sydor. (Someone whos building, set up and driving skills far outclass my own) Any way the front gear diff is very stiff, but not locked up like a spool. The rear is very free. Maybe moreso than a ball diff. I think the set up is a great alternative to having a spool up front as it does have some give to it. I guess that doesnt answer your question. I would put it in the VTA car as that little bit of give can translate to some corner speed where as the TC can power better out of the turn with the spool. Just my$.02.

I've installed a thinner chassis on my HPI Pro 4 (used in USVTA), and felt like I gained overall grip when compared to the factory chassis. I had to drop the roll center in the front to keep traction roll under control on carpet; otherwise, I didn't change anything else.

I agree. Running too tight a diff on the front of the VTA car just scrubs away horsepower in the turns. I usually make up a bunch of time in sweepers versus a car with a spool.

The TC has enough power to spin up the inside front coming out of a tight corner, so it can make use of a tighter front diff.

Also where the spool is only completely locked. The gear diff can be near that but in variables. If you want it tighter just go to a heavier viscosity oil.

yes, and one of the main reasons AE re-released it as the TC4 Club Racer.... it is as well as the TC3 one of the best cars out there winning USVTA races.

He guys I am switching my xray t4 to vta (cdn) from.tc stock class. So going from a 17.5 to 21.5. Gonna be using a. Any t4 vta guys here got pics of their weight placem pf 71 firebird body. Also I am think I might have to adjusty roll center for better steering. Large carpet track with low to med grip because we change up the layout quite often so the lines change.

As a tc car it is setup pretty good now just got to find a place to add another 120g of weight .

Not running a figure as it's not required.

Thanks.

Place as much of the weight under the belt, in front of the motor mount. I use tungsten because it has 1.5x the mass per cubic centimeter than lead.
