cd, yep, I know what you're saying. The xxxs fits that category but surely not cars like the Sprint, MI1, Sakura S, TA05....these are all pretty current and supported well. Like you mentioned, the TC4 has even seen a rebirth (like the MI1). There's absolutely nothing wrong with a good used TC5, Mi4LP or Xray. These are slightly older top of the line cars that can be bought pretty cheap. Far cheaper than a new TC6.1. I just see no good coming from a widely accepted practice of suggesting that a new top of the line chassis is truly "needed" to make you any more competitive. RobK made a good comment highlighting advantages to newer, higher level cars and he's right. But a 5 year old TC5 is a hell of a lot different than suggesting that a new TC6.1 will help you become a better, more competitive racer.

On that topic, I don't even know if there are any "off-the-shelf" balancing LiPo Chargers that go above the standard charge profile of 4.20V per cell. I own 3 balancing Lipo Chargers (1-iMax B6, 1-Venom Lipo Pro, and 1-Dynamite Pro Charger) and none of them can go over 4.20V per cell. Do some of those uber-expensive Touch-Screen LiPo Chargers allow you to go above 4.20V/cell?

There are off the shelf chargers that can and have been manipulated to go over the 4.2v per cell that the charger sees. I won't mention which ones however. Just as any charger can be used (which the mfg's never intended them to be used for) to take a battery over it's pre-determined/programmed end charging set point.

The RDX, as I know first hand, is a killer VTA car. I'm not exactly slow with mine.

Losi having abandoned the triple XS is . I still break mine out sometimes and it's a great chassis. Sadly, if the belt ever breaks, I'm probably screwed...

I would like to see an event that has a "by current rules" VTA class, and one which is strictly reserved for designs that are 2005-era and older only.... "ultra" vintage if you will...

Default Chassis rtr question

I know I have asked this before with no response, if a arts or rtr we're to be offered, which of these 3 do think would be more attractive to someone new.

First, RTR Sprint2 USVTA ready minus batteries with stock 2.4 radio,cv joints,cf shock towers and aluminum shocks at 475

Second, T3R box stock with Futaba 3pl and also rtr at 640

Thirdly, TC4 with Futaba 3pl, also USVTA RTR at 475

They all would be equipped with Novak Club Spec 25.5 systems and geared at 4.0.

Just a thought that Heather and I had.

Nope, this hobby, and some (most) of the available chassis on the market, aren't cheap. All of us here know that. Nothing wrong with promoting budget-mindedness though Point is to let newer guys (that might, and probably are sifting through this thread) know that spending uber $$$ isn't required...

I'm partial to the TC4. It seems to have all the tuning options anyone will ever need and plenty of hop-ups still around. I've been thinking of upgrading my TC3s to the new club racer since it's release. The most important adjustment I'm missing on the TC3 that the I don't think the HPI has is the ability to raise and lower the suspension blocks (roll center) with the use of shims. Right now I do it with washers on the TC3 but it is a less than perfect system. I don't know if you can do it with the X-ray, but it's just too much more expensive if you're thinking of offering an off-the-shelf ready to run VTA.
