Apparently, the battery has less resistance when warmer, and on a higher turn motor, a lower C rating will get a bit warmer than the massive battery w/ higher C rating.

I dont know how much water this argument holds, but he finished ahead of me. I'm not one to argue w/ the fast guys, they're fast for a reason...

Guys:

Sorry to but in. I asked in another VTA thread and haven't been able to get any good info. My son and I are setting up a TC4 chassis VTA car, all the stock stuff. What size pinion(s) is typical to use with the stock main gear on the TC4 Club Racer car? Our local track is a nice sized paved track with a good mix of straights and turns.

Thanks for any advice!

yes the TC4 is a very very good US VTA car...just look at the advertisement

Internal on the TC4 is 2.5...you want to start around 3.8-4.2 final drive. see what FDR your locals are running and dont forget to get temps and if they are running fans and such

cool...Ive got alot of guys coming back....I plan on making the 120 entry mark(96 entries last year) and solidify this event as a major player among On-road racers. Im using every connection and friend to make sure that this event is twice as good as last years.

I hope you and your dad come and bring lots of friends....between the food, prizes, trophies, competition, and cash give-a-way....It will be the one not to miss.....

The 2012 US VTA+ Southern Nationals in Music City, USA...Sept 21-23rd at Thunder RC Raceway, Nashville,TN....Be There

A FDR of 4.0 is generally the starting point. On the TC4's stock spur (72t) that would be a 45t pinion. Ask around the track though and play with the final drive calculator on the VTA website.

Not sure about the TC4, but a 45 tooth pinion won't fit a TC3 (similar if drive train) without mods to the motor mount and chassis. You'd be better off getting a small spur from the get go. That way you could even switch to 64 pitch before you invest a bunch into 48 pitch gears (unless you already have them). I find the working range of gear ratios for the several tracks I race at to be between 3.2 and 3.8 FDR. If you have to work with 48 pitch, Robinson makes 55 and 52 tooth spurs that will cover that range. 64 pitch is more flexible and there's a bunch of combinations that will work. You just have to do the math (Spur/Pinion) x 2.5 = FDR on your car with consideration of what will actually fit.

That's a solid point. I didn't take that into consideration, on whether or not it would physically fit. I'm not running a TC4 myself so I couldn't say, I was just using the calculator

Just do the math beemerfan posted. You'll get there. Use the final drive calulator spreadsheet here:

Hi Lee....I'm guessing no one is running that particular car, hence the lack of info.... Once you get to the track, there will be plenty of people who can figure out what you might need....

Next race on June 3rd will be USVTA crazy with a memorial race, so hope to see ya there!

To anyone else who might be interested, we are planning a big USVTA race here in New Jersey, on Sunday August 12th, with an all day open practice on that Saturday the 11th....

Look for a thread sometime in June....
