Granted the bearings were not cheap ($89.00 for a full set) but IMO they are worth every penny.
Where did you get grade 7 bearings for $89 a set? That is a steal. usually grade 7 bearings are $20+ per bearing making a while car $300+. I have seen grade 5 for a decent price but not 7.

Glad I saw this post. I was about to order the grade 5 bearings. Might get even better ones now.

I haven't heard the liquid wrench method. Great tip. I have been looking at different bearing oils. What is everyone using? I have had good luck with the trinity blue but I want to see if there is something better.

After doing a lot of research on ceramics I came to the decision that they are right for me. I don't know anyone else running them though. It may be more of a psychological thing. if you think it will make the car better you will probably drive it better. Just like if you are convinced a mustang body is faster than a barracuda you will drive the mustang better.

Wow... this is like deja vu. I guess this practice got lost over the last few years but before ceramics this was common practice. Clean with brake cleaner or even wd40 and then soak them in wd40 (or something similar like liquid wrench) before use. I got a similar suggestion from a team driver once but he soaked them in Slick 50 (or similar product). Since then I've always used bearings with the plastic shields and always performed this process. Leaving off one side of a metal shielded bearing simply required alot more work.

The bearings as a pair are still shielded. You only lose the inside shield on each bearing, leaving the other bearing to protect its backside.

I think the wheels take too much of a beating to use ceramics anyway. Unless you are big pockets and can afford that stuff. Put them in the drivetrain and leave the rest to a good quality 5 or better bearing.

Dont forget Ceramics are not illegal in VTA but they do make you a dork.

A dork that wins with ceramics is still a winner and yes, still a dork.

Shoo-goo that pill bottle to the top of an old aquirum air pump and you have an instant 1/10 scale parts washer. I tossed some used off road bearing in and could'nt believe the crud that was shaken out over night and that was with the shields left on.
Liquid Wrench Silicone spray +1
