Default Vaterra 68 Camaro

I heard that this question was asked and answered as ... no ... but is the Vaterra 68 Camaro being considered as a legal body for USVTA?

So, what part of "no" do you not understand?

Sounds more like wishful thinking then not understanding the meaning behind "no".

Go easy on him NutDriver. It's a forum. He's just asking about it.

It's a cool body with lots of detail. I think the problem with it was too narrow. Otherwise it might have been considered.

I'll give you the less harsh (vs. the how dare you!!) answer- if you really want to run it... see what your local club and the racers involved have to say. Where I'm at we have a few of the shells like the corvette's out there running. I doubt anyone would care if a vaterra was out there as well. Of course, if it's an official USVTA race, just don't bring it. Hope that helps.

Vaterra body is 190mm and will not clear the rear vta wheels(31mm wide with a 6mm offset).

The way I see it, if you like the Vaterra mustang then get it and paint it up. You know you can't use it to race in official USVTA races. But you probably can use it at a lot of club races IF you can fit the legal wheels and tires under it. Just make sure you have a legal shell to run, and bring that too. That way at least you know you can go fully legal if you need to.

You didn't believe me! I'm insulted...

I don't think anyone would care in Indy. You can use it outdoors at Hobbytown for sure.

I tend to think the point is that at the club level, there would never be a reason to turn a racer away just because they showed up with a shell that wasn't 100% "legal". Let' em race. Perhaps suggest that they move to an approved shell if they continue to run on a regular basis. Personally if I went to race for say, the first time, and someone made a big stinking deal over me having a corvette or Vaterra shell, I doubt I would come back. Just my .02

If the wheels will fit within the shell without protruding out, so be it. That said, I do think the HPI Camaro is a better choice. I have found it to be fairly durable.

One would hope that a *NEW Racer would check at the track he planned to run "BEFORE" buying something to race at that track...

Well... that's a little tricky at our track. The inmates are kinda running the asylum now. Luckily we have Indy RC Racer as our guiding light.

And Bolio32 isn't new...

I have only seen one person show up with a Vaterra '69 Camaro body on their VTA car at our track. He showed up early on a race day to get some practice with his VTA. As soon as his side view mirrors came off the Camaro he pulled his car off the track. That was the last time I saw the guy at the carpet track. Our race director was all for letting him race with us in VTA class, but he didn't like the way the boards mishandled his car.

Just one reason I suggested that the HPI Camaro would be the better go-to.

Has anyone seen any improved availability for HPI bodies recently? With the 68/69 Camaros being so popular, they are very hard to find.

Try Superior Hobbies. I bought one recently, they probably had at least 4-5 more in stock. I'd give them a call.
