Comparing the new and old motor I've notice two things: One the timing labels are in approximately the same location, which is noticeably different from older BOSS25.5 motors my friends here in TX have, so Novak may have change their manufacturing process with this batch of motors. Two the new motor has much less end play in the shaft than the old motor. All that said the new motor does not COG at 45 degrees timing on the label, in fact is a rocket, but it over heats (I just pulled out the old motor and stuck in the new one every thing else is the same). Made some timing changes added a fan and lowered the FDR and the car is still fast and the temp is under control. Sunday is the first race with the new motor, we'll see how it goes. Fingers crossed.

I also bought a Reedy Sonic 25.5 motor to run and see how much difference there is in that motor and the Novak motor. I'll let you know
This motor ran much stronger that my last FPOS; however, I had nothing for the top three cars. I realized after the race I was over geared because of the spreadsheet error, so I'll have to wait to see how this motor is with better gearing. Still hopeful.

For those who like to stick their head in the sand and pretend that motor timing isn't an issue in VTA, recently we found one racer was running with more than 45 degrees of motor timing. He went from one of the fastest in USVTA to just another VTA racer when made to run legal - poetic justice I heard later that he blew up his motor in the main!

one of our inexperienced racers blew up his motor but somehow the timing got moved about a quarter turn down beyond the lowest timing mark. His screws were loose so it must have moved by the vibration. but wow what a smoke show when the windings melted

his motor was well over the limit of my IR temp gun

Well I wasn't able to make the VTA Nationals this weekend. However I was able to double dip locally in Indy. Indoor racing on Friday night (Indy RC Raceway) and outdoor asphalt parking lot racing on Sunday (Hobbytown Indy North). Hope everyone had fun racing this weekend.

Maybe some of you took some video of VTA racing in your area. If you want to see what VTA racing looks like in Indy, check out Bruce Olson's YouTube page here...

Note: Before watching the below video you will want to turn down your volume. It was very windy.

Got to run our "Outlaw VTA" class at the "King of Cal" race in SoCal this past weekend...1st time running a OVTA car this year, and the last time was last years 1000 lap OVTA Enduro.

Had a blast!! The McAllister Firebirds worked GREAT and looked good on the track.

Here's a video from the "fast guys" in round 3, heat 3

(My son is in the Green Firebird..running about 4th)

Usually it means either "any 25.5" or 21.5 motors.

Those look fast, so I'm going with 21.5 in this case.

Did I win?

In parts of SoCal we run "OUTLAW VTA" with Open 21.5 motors, any 2c battery, No Driver Figure required, and we CAN add a small spoiler. The Slick tires are also legal, but they never work..so I think guys have those out of their mind finally. The body list is also a list is also a little more open as well. (There's a Corvette body that can run - and the McAllister Camaro body can be used..I believe there's a couple others as well)

The 21.5's bring us a little more excitement since most of our outdoor tracks are fairly good size.

I found this group/class appealing to me because I came from a 21.5/2c Oval Class - so I had a lot of spare motors....and I'm not so much of a purist to care about the driver figure - so it's a good fit.

We had 17-18 entries for the King of Cal race... with drivers from all over CA and a couple from AZ

Speaking of outlaw:

For a fun class at a race last year we ran "Big Block" VTA. The rules were 13.5 blinky, VTA tires and body, slicks ended up the best. Wouldn't want it as a regular thing but man it was fun for something different. We ran all 9 cars heads up in every heat, 8 min quals. you had to manage tire temps with your trigger finger lol

Open 21.5 - does that mean ESCs with Boost & 21.5 or just any 21.5 motor? If the later, what 21.5 was dominate? I'm still looking for a good 21.5 for USGT.

I'm just about to dabble in USGT myself. From what I saw this past weekend in a big event I saw several guys running the Speedpassion Orca 21.5 motor. I was even told to get that motor as soon as I can to make my TC6 competitive.

I've been running in VTA for a while and thought it would be a good time to try out USGT over this summer.
