I remember an OVAL RACE in the late 80's or early 90's with a CLAIM / SWAP rule - the driver TQ'd and got his TQ motor claimed in round 1, put the "SWAP" motor in his car and BROKE the TQ in ROUND 2 (the guy w/ the "CLAIMED" motor went slower in round two w/ the 1st round TQ motor in HIS car)

There's SOOOO much more than just a motor being in a car. (But have to admit, the only reason I remember it was the added drama it added to the race day)

I tqd our VTA class yesterday with a 3 year old ballistic 25.5. Big deal right?

Our class is OUTLAW VTA as in "any motor" - some guys are running 8.5s!

If somebody wants my motor, and they pay for a new one for me, they are welcome to it. Because my solution to making "straight line speed" is corner speed....

Everybody knows that it will never matter what the rules are there will always be someone bitching about the rules and saying this or that needs to be changed.

It is like the Mideast where there will never be peace no matter how much they talk about it.

The same smart guy running the 8.5 and wonder why the car is not driveable after 2 minutes when the tires are overheated. Both those racers say they wouldn't race the class anymore as soon as the real VTA rules are implemented next month, unreal. You kick there ass with a spec VTA car. I slowed my car down since I was running a 21.5 motor till it ran the same lap times as your car so we can have good racing.it seems you get away in the first half of the race and I reel you in the last 2 minutes to make it a race. Big fun we need more cars to build this class.

I like the coolness of the tb but it the lack of gearing concerns me. I guess my question is does anyone successfully run a tb04?
I've seen a TB04 in VTA at our track be as fast as anything else. If you do run that car, just be aware that you will have to modify the area around the pinion to get proper gearing. I believe that someone now makes an aftermarket piece (EXOTEK - http://www.exotekracing.com/tb04-stock-motor-adaptor/) that allows for larger pinion gears without modifying anything. You should be able to find the info you need in the TB04 forum on RCTECH.net here - Tamiya TB04 Pro

On the other hand, running the same/similar cars in multiple classes might be easier on a parts budget (less spares to carry). It also can be helpful in an emergency if you break a part that you don't have spares for. You can at least continue to run one car until you get the replacement.

We're running 2.80 - 3.1 at full timing and the motors aren't coming off all that hot. Of course, in a few more months, I may need two fans

Thanks. I already modified the motor mount and will probably order the exotek one if i decideto run it. I'm just too indecisive haha. I also have 2 tc5s with enough parts to last forever, a sukura zero with plenty of spares, and my original fttc3 to choose from(I really need to get around to selling some of them) but like you said it would be really nice only needing one brand of spares. Plus, a bd7rs is only $160 something at rcmart.

so in other words, that TC5 will sit there collection dust??

we all know Sharpie don't run anymore and when he does, he likes the cars that have been sitting around neglected for a while - gives him a sense of drama trying to race them.... and do well

I've seen him do that with 2 of mine...an old, unused F103 (which I believe he TQ'ed with) and a M03 that I pulled out for him..

...and if I remember correctly, that M03 made the sLoWbirDs A-main and I handed the radio over to Ray Murray so he could have some fun with it. Good times back then, thanks Kev!
