This.

VTA is not a class about getting the best stuff. It's a class about getting the best out of the stuff you have.

And that's the fun part.

Car was perfect, he didn't make a mistake, and the other drivers in his qualifiers recognized he was on a flier and made sure they didn't hold him up. And the amazing thing, he literally drives one handed thanks to a bad accident (FUTABA helped hook up a drum set peddle to his radio for the throttle/brake). Good driver Yes, but he is also VERY talented in setting up his car. He has moved on to off road now and I look him up whenever I get back to DC just to see what unique things he is doing to his off road stuff. A very creative man - wish some would rub off on me!

As CraigMBA says below [VTA]... is a class about getting the best out of the stuff that you have...and that's the fun part!!!

Wow, while most would give up he found a way to keep racing, hats off to him!

Thinking about it tho, a foot control throttle would kinda be cool.

I have seen a rig where a video game steering wheel and pedals were modified to input through the RC controller. They just wired it from the pots.

Backwards 20 car race is just madness indoors! Just look at that drivers stand! I'm not sure how you could tell if you were racing for position or not in this. Just looks like a big cluster... This would be VERY cool to see this on a huge outdoor track like LHR with 20+ on it though. USVTA OUTDOOR NATS!!! FDR's of 2.0!!!

we have a track in south Jersey that could easily handle a 20-car main event - and even a USVTA outdoor nationals

oh Ray Murray, you listening??

Paul is pretty inspiring for not giving up, but what brought me to tears last summer was a young fellow who had returned from Iraq, minus both legs, one arm and most of the rest of the other. He was throttling his RC car with what was left of his right hand and steerng it with his chin. Not many ways to say thanks after seeing that but, Thank You For Your Service & a smart military Salute (from an old retired Lt Col). I told him about Paul and offered to contact some of the radio OEMs to see what they could come up with to help him out but unfortunately, I never saw him again.

Kinda puts your persective back in place - we really are just playing with toy cars!

I can easily imagine a radio with a trigger on the steering wheel allowing someone to steer and throttle with the same hand. The base would have to clamp to a variety of available surfaces on a wheelchair or the drivers stand. Other options might help depending the nature and severity of the handicap.

i'd like some feedback on 'drivers'. those lexan inserts look lame. our good buddy Barry runs a rubber ducky. what other non-lexan "toys" would be "legal" for serious vta racing??
