I measured mine. It was hard to be accurate, but it seems to be less than 2.5 mm difference. The overall width is no where near 17mm wider in back also. My understanding of offset is from full scale automobiles. Maybe HPI uses a different formula. If the offset per wheel is really 3 mm, and 6 mm per set total, then the actual measurements I got off of my vehicle match up.
My rear width is right about 200 and my front right about 190, and if the rear wheels actually have a 3 mm offset (by 1/1 automobile standards), the total rear width would be 11 mm wider. Half of the 5mm wider wheel, (2.5 mm on either side of the centerline) plus all of the offset, 3 mm, equals 5.5 mm per wheel, equals 11 mm wider overall in back.
P.S. This is stuff is interesting to me, but maybe I have too much time on my hands.

I am just speaking from my own experience. I spent 2 months putting together the best looking VTA car with the wheels perfectly matched to the width of the body. I even put Goodyear stickers on the rubber tires. Then I put the car on the track and within the first 10 seconds of practice I broke a front knuckle, bent the front left turnbuckle, and ripped 1-inch slit in the front of my perfect VTA body. Moral of the story is 2 months worth of "pretty-ing it up" work went down the drain in 10 seconds. If I had put as much time in with practice as I did with "pretty" work, then my car would more likely survive a race

Dirla I am all too familiar with the back marker position. If I work by a$$ off for weeks at a time I might be able to get third at a decent track, but even that would require a great deal of luck. And the only chance I have at beating you at anything with a touring chassis under it is in concourse so I respectfully disagree on track time trumping spray time. I have to stick with what I am good at.
