Default New Person needs help

Greetings folks-

New here to VTA and need some guidance. I am putting together a TC3 VTA spec car and was wondering if I am correct when it comes to the pinion. I am going on the assumption that the internal ratio on the TC3 is 2.5 and I have the standard 72 tooth spur. I have read that the desired final drive ratio for the motor spur combo would be 4.0 which would mean a 45T pinion (48 pitch). Does that seem to be correct? Never ran a pinion that large before, but then never ran a 25.5 turn motor either. Thanks for any info you can give me.

Somebody once said "be careful about what you wish for." I purchased a Cirtix Stock Club race + Ultra Sportsman 25.5T motor Combo. I put the combo in my VTA to test it and found out my car was going much slower than before. I gave the motor to my roommate who was able to test it with his SkyRC BMC-01 Brushless Motor Checker. His motor checker showed my S.P. 25.5 motor had about 1223 Kv. We tested a Novak Ballistic 25.5 motor in the BMC-01 Checker and it showed the Ballistic had about 1542 Kv. The Ballistic motor has +319 Kv advantage over the S.P. 25.5 motor.
The Ultra Sportsman and the Competition V3.0 are different motors as well.
I believe the Ultra Sportsman 25.5 was made to be a Cheap crawler motor. The Competition V3.0 25.5 was made with racing in mind and should be on par with the Novac for VTA.

Carrollton is a suburb of Dallas between Farmers Branch and Lewisville. Mikes is on I35E between Beltline Road and Sandy Lane on the west side of the Freeway

Pretty decent. Made the A main by 1 sec, and finished last. Think I left the traction compound on too long, as I was traction rolling until about half way through the main. Still learning setup techniques though.

Question for you fast guys: Are you staying on full throttle almost all of the time? Is this how my car should handle?

For the second week I set TQ and then it all went sideways in the main. A fellow racer has locked up First place in out Winter Series and I have a pretty solid second. Great weekend of racing again this week and we had several people bring their VTA's out for practice/tuning that were brand new. Look forward to seeing them on the carpet!

Depends on your layout. Traction roll is not normal. A band-aid fix is back off how much traction compound you are using (if you are saucing the whole tire back off to 2/3-1/2 and see what happens).

Yeah I put it on about 1 min before the B main, which is 3 min longer than the qualifiers, and I think thats what did it ( I usually put it on right after the heat before mine). ~4 min longer was too much I guess. About half way through the main it was hooked up real nice, but by then I was so far behind I had no chance.

I usually sauce my tires basically right after I come off the track and then its an hr +/- before the next round (we have an off road program that gets mixed in).

If traction came up throughout the day check to make sure you are doing a good job of cleaning your tires. If you have compound building up it will change how the car handles throughout the day. (ie. First qual - Low traction, Second/Third qual - good traction, Main - too much traction leading to rolling).

Might want to try swapping out springs or going to a front roll bar/going one step stiffer.

Thats a good point as well, the layout was brand new, and by the end of the night you could clearly see a new groove. I didnt even think about that.

My tires are REALLY broken in, I cant sauce them too much or I traction roll like crazy. They have almost 100 runs on them.

Southern California is kicking off their new VTA Race Club with a Swap Meet. Anybody living near Chino (Los Angeles) California area should go to this Swap Meet at TQ RC Racing. There are going to be hundreds of hard-to-find items there. Click on the pic below to read more about it.
