Surprisingly we had a small turnout (6 cars) in VTA. This was the 3rd race in an 8-race series put on by Mike.

Original size was either 56'x98' or 60'x98' but roof support two poles were in the way. We are using 42'x98' right now (this was the size track for the 2012 ROAR Carpet Nats). I had a good day up until the main when the car fell off my qualifying pace by about .7 seconds.

Any chance we could add a 'Only charge to 8.4V' rule, like ROAR?

I have recently seen guys going up to 8.5 and that adds to the lipo danger

Battery Specifications:
Battery Specifications: 2 cell LiPo hard cased, 5000 mAh limit

MOST IMPORTANTLY: If it's not in the rules, and does not encompass the spirit of slower, controlled racing with realistic looking cars, consider it illegal. This is called the "Spirit of VTA" Rule. The class is based on slower, equal playing field competition with less traction, minimal aerodynamic aids and mostly older carpet racing technology. The final objective is close, fair, wheel-to-wheel racing for all.

All decisions of the race promoter or track owner are final.

I think this is where this comes into place...some tracks dont follow the 8.4 ROAR rule..and even more dont check voltage at all..

for most official USVTA races...most will have the 8.4 rule in play

Hey Myron, just like GP40X said the overall carpet size is approximately 98' by 60'. But we have only been using the portion of carpet between the 2 roof support poles and the driver's stand, which is approx. 98' by 48'.

The squares in the pic below represent 4' by 4' area. The blue circles are where the roof support poles are located.

Sharpie,

Per Andrew's measurements, the area we are using is 42' by 98'. I WISH we were running 48' by 98' you would be amazed by how much room an additional 6' would give us.

So all the other classes at the track charge to 8.5v as well? Sigh.....

As it has been pointed out, #1 the track owner's decision is final, so if it's 8.4v, 8.44v, 8.2v, whatever the rule is that should be followed for safety's sake. Also, if you're overcharging, you ARE an idiot.

I suppose that the rule was never added since pretty much anywhere you go or any class you race, it's 4.2v per cell or 8.4v for a 2 cell lipo.

So until i get a chance to change the rules, don't go past 8.4v. Also, no model rocket engines strapped to the body for "holeshots" at the beginning of a race, and I am also outlawing the Ben Hur chariot wheel blades as well.

What about the 'James Bond' Pulsed EMF beam that disables all electronics within 30 feet in front of my car? Can I still use that in VTA? I promise only to use it when GP40X's car is in front of me.

But Rob, I NEED my Ben Hur chariot wheel blades to take Sharpie out after he HACKS me.

On a more serious note, at the 2012 Carpet Nats they were measuring batteries before every heat with a DVOM and allowing 8.44 due to variances in chargers. My Orion Clubman Lipo charger charges one of my batteries to 8.42 and the outer to 8.44 according to my Sky balancer but the charger screen shows it charged to 8.401. Checking them with a Fluke DVOM Shows 8.40 & 8.42. Go figure.
