I am still using my 2005 Yokomo MR4TC SD SSG for racing VTA. I dont know why I guess I just really like the kit. Anyway I am having a really hard time strapping batteries into the spot that was cut for six cells side by side. I would like to put all of the battery retaining hardware back on it and see if I can find a lipo that is shaped like the six cell pack with the bumps on the bottom. I just dont see them that often anymore. If any of you guys come across a place that sells new ones send me a link.

Thanks. I will have to look at it. Usually those are rounded off and a little smaller to fit in that six cell spot.

I also have that brass plate I used to use that locks into those holes. I drilled it out some to lighten it up. I quit using it when I got the reedy battery

That might be a good way to go too. When I use the strapping tape it just flings the battery out the side. So I end up taping it five ways to sunday. I guess I need a new car but I really love this old thing.

Hideeho
I'm thinking about getting into usvta, but I just want to get my toe wet to start with. I'm looking for something inexpensive (relatively any way). I've found 3 chassis that look promising, AE TC4, HPI sprint 2, & 3racing Sakura zero s. I'm leaning heavily towards the Sakura because of low initial cost, upgrade ability, good looking design (other than its pink). What would each of these bring to the table for a new on road driver? Are there any others I may have missed in the price range?

I also have a rules question. Can I run a 510 or Giulietta body? Both were run in the original trans am series. Of course that is assuming I can find either body that will fit a 200mm chassis

I know firsthand that the TC4 makes a great VTA car. I personally wouldn't go with the Sprint 2, but either the TC4 or the Sakura Zero S would be good choices.

+2 with the TC4. Love mine. It's funny, I bought one of the first TC4's when they came out years ago, sold it to my dad, now he runs it in VTA. I had to buy the club racer 'cause I missed it so much lmao.

Here is a link to the rules showing allowed bodies as well as everything else allowed in the class

http://www.usvintagetransam.com/rules/index.html

As far as those chassis, I would say the TC4. 1 of my step sons started with 1 and Now my other step son and myself run TC5's. A few people I know went with the Sakura and like it. Dont know anyone running a Sprint 2, so cant really comment on it.

I have both the TC4 and the Sakura Zero S.

Go with the TC4 purely for parts support.

I like both equally, but if you just want to get your toes wet, the TC4 is really easy to work on, upgrade, keep up with parts, etc.

The Sakrura Zero S is much nicer after you buy the vertical motor mount and change the center pulley to a 19 tooth. I'd recommend this car if you are looking for a less expensive belt drive car and you aren't a total newbie to touring cars.
