LipPo Battery size for TC
 

I'm thinking I might start racing again soon, but I need to replace my batteries now. So I'm after some help. What size LiPo batteries should I buy?

I'll be running on road 1/10 TC mainly 17.5T and then some 10.5 classes.

I don't what to waste money buying 6000mAh 65C LiPo's if I don't have to. But I don't want batteries that will let down the performance of the car.

What do you suggest????????

I've read that for 17.5 you probably don't need anything more than 40 or 45C constant so that's what I went with. I just picked up some Turnigy nano-tech 4.2's but I won't be at the track for a few weeks to see how they run. The main reason I went with 4200's is simply dimensions. My JRSXR is limited and I found that most 40C 5000 packs are a bit too thick, although there are a few 20 or 25C packs that fit. 4200 is also about 50g lighter, not that it's going to help me at this stage :)

Do you know if 45C constant is enough if running 10.5 ????????

5000 mAh 40C are fine for 17.5. Most of the bigger C discharge ratings are difficult to reach, regardless of the battery companies' marketing claims. As far as brands, most if not all of the cells are made in China, so purchase from a label you feel comfortable with. Because in the end, the package dimensions and label are all that most "battery" companies really design.

There is a thread on here where the owner of SMC tested a bunch of manufacturer's batteries, and the best were really around 40C, regardless of the sticker on the pack. Take that for what it's worth.

Isn't everything made in China these days.
I think I'll stick with the brands my local shop stocks.

if you are budget gens ace 5000 50c and they are on brca roar list

I run a gtb 3.5t system in a tc4 with a TP 4200mah 40c pack with no issues whatsoever ... No punch or top speed problem here, even at the end of a 6minute run ! I also run a Tp 3200mah 40c in my brushed(monster 27t) tc4 stock tc with no runtime or speed issues... The 65c lipos I have did not yield anymore speed than the 40c's, just more weight to carry around the track ....

40c would be plenty for a 17.5. you might want to consider the weight to balance to pick the mah. you might need to run a 5000mah or bigger. if you run a smaller 3600 or 4200 you might have to add weight. would rather have the extra punch of the bigger battery than some extra lead:)

Try the Turnigy nano batteries and you will find that the are better then
the Gen Ace batteries.

C-rating means nothing on labels these days.
Its all about voltage drops under a load.

Good to hear. I just bought 4 of them. :) Not ROAR approved though.

The gens ace look like a good way to good if they were not out of stock.
Also I found a "UltimateRC" video that implied that you can no longer get the battery with direct 4mm banana plug connections.
Is this true??????

Thanks everyone for the information as I feel that if I go with a battery of 40C, the battery will not be the weakest link of my drive system.

All I need to do is to source availability and price of a listed approved battery.

My 6500 60Cs are way way faster (like .1-.2s per lap at ~10s per lap) than my 5000 40Cs. Just saying.

Also, for an fyi, even though I have not been paying all too much attention to my usage during a 6min 17.5 NT TC, I'll estimate the usage at 2600mah.

I'd get some good packs if you're going to be around for a while and plan on being competitive. I know, I know that driving will get you 99% there, but...
