The Genxi will win right out of the wrapper. No need to accessorize further! But you will. Any extras are front, side and center springs. A box stock car plus a top brace has won IIC a couple of times.

There is a AE 12R5 for sale on here with parts for $80 shipped. Sweet deal on a highly competitive setup.

If you are just starting out in 12th you need a car that is somewhat easy to drive. Also you need to see what others at your track are running so you can get help and feedback. However, you also have to figure out your driving style. If you are a smooth driver the CRC is going to work well. If you are aggressive in turn in and throttle I would go with AE or a serpent based car. They will handle that style better. Really it comes down to feel in the end and is a personal choice. Lastly part support is key. You should race something that is supported locally until you get the hang of it. This of course is all my opinion.

I recommend the Associated 1/12 12R5.1 Kit w/LiPo Conversion Kit

It just won the Regionals in Stock and Mod

They are including the new inline kit for free so you can't beat that deal

I would say you should look no further. I love both of my Gen-XL and Gen-XI CRC's. Outstanding car, very solid, tunable and super quick. In fact, the CRC won the 17.5 12th at IIC this year.

Pretty much any of the new cars are going to work well. As others have said the CRC is a great car and pretty popular so getting parts isn't too hard...however that said I gotta throw in my 2 cents for my favorite car the BMI The rear suspension is a bit unique in that it uses a fiberglass or carbon fiber flex link instead of your typical ball joint link with springs. That makes setup and tuning a bit easier. There is a new version coming out soon that expands the car to have battery mounting options like the other cars out there.

right now i would say you can get one of two cars being the two best cars on the market. Either and Xray X12 kit, or CRC gen-Xi kit. Best two cars out there. When 12th scale was still big in my area, i had 4 Xi's one for stock, superstock, MOD, and a spare. All setup identical and drive like a dream.

With the Hobbywing 1s ESC, do you need to solder the bank of capacitors to the ESC? I am looking at this ESC to put in my 12R5.1
