Thing about 235mm pan is that people ruin it every time. The cars can be riduclous fast. We had a radar gun at an indoor race on a 48x120 carpet track, going 55+mph indoors. Fun? YEA BUDDY! could any of us drive them in any kind of orderly fashion? Sadly, no. Complete mess, and nobody wants to be a part of it.
You gotta find the speed where the top 3-4 guys absolutely bitch that the cars are to slow (and your ruining the class is what they'll tell you), and then race them that way. If the bitchy guys quit, all the better. For everybody else, the racing will be excellent, the cars will last and you'll have fun. and you can follow, and be followed, and pick a line. ACTUALLY RACE!!! Just better racing than the old "Grip-it, Rip-it, Hang-on" method of rc racing we have now.
Imagine actually racing the car. Very seldom do I find myself on the line any more with a race car. It's a well managed accident waiting to happen. With the exception of perhaps the top 2 drivers out of 100 in any area of the world, cars are to fast for all of us to have a proper racing experience.
And if you want to see proper racing, watch this. I think mod cars then are about what 17.5 Blinky is now... in fact, Mod then, may have been slower, watch and gauge as the best drivers in the world lay it down.

Re...Vintage 235
I found the 1/10 Osella but I can't find the 1/10 TOJ and I want to order both. Who makes a suitable driver figure for these open cockpit cars?????
We are racing 1/10 pan on prepped asphalt in the summer basically we have said take your 1S and 10.5 motor (from 1/12 winter indoor carpet racing) and put it in your 1/10 pan car, our track is aprox 80' X140'.....I'm also running VTA TC3 21.5 motor (larger track) and it seems like the the more worn out the car gets the faster it gets.

Our nationals weight minimum is still from the old days, 1200 grams. The thought behind it is you can buy an old 235mm car, put in electronics and your probably around 1130-1160grams race ready with lipo's and big tires.
That way an old RC10L, RC10L2 or corally c10/c10x only has to add 50-70 grams of weight. You can ballance the car with that. My L2 is around 1230-1240 grams with big tires and race ready. Without the extra weight it is around 1160 grams.
We run on small 1/10 and big 1/8 unprepped outdoor tracks with 200mm to 235mm cars.

2s 17.5 in a 1200g pan car is going to be pretty fast for the average American track. A few years ago we ran a series for pan cars at a number of Norcal tracks, with a mix of 2s or 6 cell and 1 s or 4 cell. Even with non-ramping speed controls the 2s cars with 13.5 motors were stupid fast, too fast for the average racer to drive well. We had a GTP class (GTP bodies, 2s 13.5) and a GT class (GT Bodies, 1s 13.5) that were scored seperately (but run together on the track). It was really fun and would have continued but the sponsor had to pull out for personal reasons
I'd do it again in a heartbeat!

I have a 10L sitting here, I just piled a bunch of stuff on and it weighs in at 1140 grams. That's with a 2s stick pack, a heavy speed control and an old BBR body. I doubt that any car, regardless of equipment, would weigh over 1160g, just what 2wdrive said.

Outdoors 17.5 would be fun, or even open esc 21.5.

I put mine together w/ a blinky ESC w/ 10.5 and One Cell.
I'm a 2c OVAL guy who LOVES the 21.5 combo on the ovals, and planned to put that power in my old 10L w/ the ANDY's TOJ, but I didn't like the fit of a stick 2c... so I figured a 10.5 / 1c would produce similar power and a better balance.
I'm going to run it at least once w/ the old GTB speedo, but want to try it w/ a full timing ESC too just for kicks.
Also, I don't plan to use the WGT tires... I just don't like those on Asphalt tracks on the back (of ANYTHING) - they would probably be fine on a short carpet track.
The Lilac or a double pink front should be fine, but I want BITE on the back...

I think that's a great idea. The last time I actually raced 235 was paved nats in 2004. 2s may be a little much but even with 17.5 it would be a really quick class. If they had a 235 class at nats I would have to enter it no matter what. in 04 with brushed stock motors we were going almost as fast as mod tc down the straight. sort of a vintage class with old school P 35 bodies would be sick.

I have tested, and raced an F-103 on foam with 1s 10.5 open esc, and 2s 21.5 open esc and found these 2 combos to be very close in pace.

At Camarillo they do run a 1s 10.5 open esc, 235 class.

On that track - I think I'll really like the OPEN Esc combo w/ the 10.5 / 1c
Last time I watched them run, they were all running the PF GTP bodies I believe... (forget which one)
