Default GEAR OR BALL DIFF?

hey guys
I was wounding what the difference is between a gear and ball diff?
and which is better?
I have a TRF415msxx that i run a 21.5 motor on and I'm running a ball diff but thinking about changing.

Maintenance or lack there of in a gear diff and another tuning option. In my opinion you could do with out the gear diff running a 21.5 motor. If you do decide to upgrade to a gear diff, I suggest you go to the Tamiya TRF415 thread and start at page #1399 post #20978 for some info because there's a lot involved in getting a gear diff to fit in this car. Good luck.

It used to be that the ball diff was a better choice but I see that now things have changed.

It depends on the car's balance, switching between a rear gear diff/ball diff when I had a photon was more dramatic than it is on my xray. The ball diff will square up out of a corner better, but the gear feels a bit more free overall, I have started switching it more often vs changing say a rear shock position.

I think after a little experimentation, I would have to say that maybe a ball diff in rear and a gear diff in front is not a bad setup - although the fact that HPI made their ball diffs adjustable externally is a great plus!
