Put white out on the tip were u clip in the body place the new body over so it leaves a white mark where it needs to be cut so the body fits snug and accurately . Works for me

i mount the body before i paint it... cut out the front wheel holes and match them to the front wheels. then i mark where the body posts are from above/outside. then i mark the centers for the 2 back wheels and use a circular cutter to cut the holes out.

I have a rather elaborate way of doing it but it works well for me.

1) Mount body before painting
2) Draw a vertical center line of the front wheel wells
3) Setup the car with equal toe L/R
4) Space out all the wheels until they are just slightly wider than the body
5) Turn on the car, lower the body over the car and line up the front axle with the front wheel well center line
6) Mark the body post holes

That is essentially it. There are a couple other things I do to make it easier that other people will find tedious. One such thing is I use aluminum stand offs instead of body posts and make sure they hold the body up at the right heights. This is because body posts get bent up so I want to make sure I use something perfectly straight to get the holes right. That way when I replace the body posts the body isn't crooked.

you always need to mark from the outside the bodypost placement with the alignment of the front wheels, the rear are to some extent a little less important (there is usually enough room to cut more forward or rearward)

Then paint your bodyshell leave it to dry a full day and cut the wheelarches with a rounded scissors.

I put the chassis on a setup board, and then use a combination of the lines on the board, and the chassis itself to get the shell in the correct position. Cut the excess from around the shell with a brand new scalpel blade, then mark out the body posts and roll over mount. Once that is done, mark the front/rear axle points on the shell and then use a composs cutter to get perfectly round arches. Last thing to do is to put a A4 sized peice of sandpaper on the setup board and rub the bottom edge of the shell against it so that it is flat! Then, clean it properly and it is ready for painting! Cheers, Chris.

when I mount a body, i have some old body mounts, i have cut down so they will fit under the body, so when i have finished cutting it, i can clearly see where they will come up, and 9 times out of 10, it is perfect

+1 Always do it this way and it always worked. If I screw up and forgetto cut the post holes before I paint it, I use a paint pen like the guy who uses white out.

PS: Am I the only one who sees the irony in the O.P.'s screen name?

Same goes. Old short body posts and a Sharpe. Dot where the body post center is when tires are where you want them and your gold (before you paint). Pre outline with Sharpe the wheels too (before you paint). Better luck next time! Sorry
