T.O.P Photon EX First Impressions
Well, on Saturday the weather was finally ok, so I managed to get to our local track to test my new photon ex for the first time.
I started with kit setup , and from the first run I was impressed with the car having tons of steering!
After the first two runs, with minor setup changes, I ended up with a car really quick, very easy to drive and forgiving almost all my mistakes! I was on very good pace, just on my 3rd run with the car and really enjoed driving it!
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Now,after 10 runs, It is time for the first rebuilt, just to check that everything is in place and that there are no wears on the car.
Can't wait for next weekend's first race with my photon ex!!!
I am starting to get really excited!
Stay tuned!

My car sits at 1290g with LW body, titanium screws (besides chassis plate), SP cirtix esc and v3 motor, Muchmore 5600 lipo's, belt tensioner and heavy (handout) rims. These could be 10-20g lower in total. Also installed alu turnbuckles, LW wishbones and smaller alu ball ends/cups. I did removed the fan from esc and shortened all wiring. Still a full functional car ready to race and very durable. Didn't broke or bend anything with outdoor racing, ran the same set-up on the old Photon. I could shave off more with other batteries, thinner power-cables (13AWG perhaps). In other words, I did removed as much a I could so far and added it back to bring the car up to 1350g. I made a solid brass battery locator (in the middle) and added more weight close to the center of the car as low as possible. Took away alot of weight from suspension and from high positions in car. Still looking for titanium set-screws. Anyone know were to find? Photon's suspension is drowned with it...

Hi Jim
If You buy the Alloy suspension mount inserts, You will save app. 16g
Part number PO-PXSU001RD. I bet Your servo is very heavy as well. My servo weighs 22,5 gram and yes, its strong enough.
By the way, super nice detailed explanation from the assembly of Your car, I really like that.
Good luck

My servo is a futaba BLS 551, 44gr!!!Really heavy
I have the lw suspension arms, and aluminum turnbukles.
My transponder is the old red amb one, and have added a 30mm fan behind the motor, two small bodyposts on the rear shock tower and two belt tensioners.
I think the photon ex is a heavy car and I don't know if its worth to buy all the optional parts gust to make it lighter. What else would the Alloy suspension mount inserts be better at?

The weight also depends a lot on the inserts in the tires. Indoor with foam inserts the car is a lot lighter than with the rubber inserts from outdoor. The suspension mounts only has 1 purpose, to guide the screw that holds Your arms to the mounts in the car. So they dont have to be steel. You save app. 2g pr mount = 16g. The old AMB transponder to the new will save app. 7g
I dont know the weight of Your receiver, but mine is 7g.
The batteri is an important factor as well. You can easily save 35g by changing battery, if You need it. Last but least, the paint of the body can also vary 20g or more. My body weights app. 82g
