Default 2012 ATTIKO CUP GREECE

Last Sunday (23/12/12) it was the last race for 2012, and the organiser of the Greek Attiko Championship decided to make a one-race cup for 2012, the Greek Attiko Cup 2012.

The conditions were a bit tough, with 5 degrees all day. In the morning it was the 1/10 IC ATTIKO CUP that took place so as for the track to have better grip for us, the 1/10 TC. Most of the TC gyus have been at the track from early in the morning to make some practice runs before the race would start, at around 14:00.

TOP Racing team had 3 cars racing, Kostas Kakarikos, Nick Nikolakopoulos ( nnick from www.rcring.eu) and me. Unfortunately, the other members of the team, as well as some other racers couldn't attend the CUP race, due to the cold conditions, and xmas mood...

This is Kostas Kakarikos

This is nnick

And this is me

When the race started, the track was better that the morning's practice runs, but still low/medium grip and very very cold!

At the first qualifying, I cruised to victory and provisional TQ.
But at the second and last qualifying, it was nnick that was faster, and after some bad performance of mine, he managed to TQ the run and the race. I was starting the finals from 2nd which was not so bad.Kostas Kakarikos had some problems during qualifying which dropped him back, but at least he made the top 10.

A1 was a cruise to victory for nnick and a dnf for me, as my transmitter's batt refused to work well(mabe because of it being too old or too cold!).

A2 was ok, as I won, making a pass on nnick and...

A3 was a little bit harder, as the sun wasn't there and after I passed nnick, I couldn't see my car and so could only cruide around the track, to see the fluo yellow-orange xray of Petros Katsikis making an easy pass on me 3 laps before the end of the run. After that I was stuck behind him as I could see his bodyshell better and drive just behind him!!! I tried to make a move on him during the last lap, but it was too dangerous and I gave up, as I had secured the win even finishing second in that run.

So, final results are:

1. Dimitrios Mitropoulos/Top photon EX
2. Dimitrios Konstantopoulos/Xray T4
3. Petros Katsikis / Xray T3

TQ: Nick Nikolakopoulos
Best Lap: Dimitrios Mitropoulos

Unfortunatelly nnick and Kostas had some both some problems and only managed to finish 4th and 10th.

So did some testing with the car today. Was making pretty consistent laps but I'm about 1/2 second off the pace.

Had some issues though:

-Broke the left front spool outdrive (plastic). Not really sure how though. Had a few hits with boards but nothing serious. I am running the 3Racing DCJs. I didn't shim the outdrives because I didn't think they needed it. Not sure if this effects where the driveshaft pins put load on the outdrive.
-Lost a rear driveshaft blade somehow.
-Bent the Top aluminum steering blocks on one side. I've heard these are weak, but didn't think they were that bad. I know there's another company making aluminum blocks that are supposed to be stronger. Don't know the name though.

So far I like the car, but it was used, so I guess I can't really complain too much.

Hey guys, just thought I'd update where I'm at with my tweak issues.

As posted,i found the rear bulkhead topdeck screws were out by 0.5mm, causing some serious tweak. The bulkheads were checked and fine, along with the topdeck.

So I installed a new chassis... Problem solved.

I hope this can help someone else who built the car and regretted it. My chassis was out. Im not upset, just happy its sorted.

Thank Rod from topracing Australia for great support... As always.

Now to finish the build and get it on the track!

I have to say it never occurred to me that it could be the chassis and not the top deck that was out of alignment. Good luck with the rest of the build and enjoy.

So it was the chassis for sure?, was it one of the cars from the pre-order?, cause I know the one I got always seems to have a tweak I can't quite track down, just started using my the second one I bought, and I don't think it has the same tweak issue, or it seems better.

I had a really good showing with my EX this past weekend. Its made me excited to run the car again.

Overall it is amazing what impact two screws in/out of the top deck at the motor mount can have. Right noe the std top deck with the front two scews in or thick top deck with no screws appears to be best in high grip carpet racing.
