Rookie, and you call your self a veteran RC driver.

It looks like the setup sheet uses + for toe out.

hey mark - its definitely posted - on both the photon and photon ex pages.

one thing just wrong on the ex page is the info about shock towers. the ex and photon shock towers appear to be the same height -- so you can/should run shorter/cut shock shafts. that update is coming soon.

nah - no veteran here. i just show up at the track and try hard. i have at first a miserable day with the EX (after tq'ing with my photon in 17.5). anyone ever try to drive a new car/new motor/new setup/different tires in a main from the pole position (just to see how bad it might be?). i did -- what a mistake. Nothing like knowing your going to fail after attempting to hustle the car around in warm-up and needing to take 30 clicks of dual rate out.

anyway, after being super worried about why my EX sucked so much (it was loose under power/on exit) my big saving grace where my friends - thanks everyone for your encouragement and suggestions! Apparently the rear wheelbase makes a HUGE difference. Over the past 1.5 race days I wasted a ton of time on front links, rear links, shocks, springs, shock position, roll centers, etc. -- and now i need to re-test this all, as I found a 2mm shim to be the best rear wheelbase option at least on these Team Power tires that we are running for the Reedy Race. Thankfully by the end of the night I found some 'Stash Speed' (you had to be there).

Anyway - gotta get back to baby sitting some servers. ttyl.

I suspect they are talking about these...

Unless I wrong, but the first time I ever saw X-rings, was on motorcycle chains, less drag, better seal in theory.

I had the same new car blues that Mike had. I was lucky to have E.J. and some other team drivers help. Biggest thing I took away from yesterday is set ups from the Photon don't really work with the EX. Can't wait to get back on the track with this new set up!

Gotta disagree what ya. My ex setup is now nearly identical to my photon setup. Differences
- roll blocks
- front end inner camber link higher
- front end wheelbase shims.

Am I imagining it, or do the TOP option pistons give a lighter action than the stock kit plastic pistons?.

I built my new EX shocks with the options, but I just did a rebuild of my original shocks (interestingly using tamiya shafts/orings/bladders), and the old shocks with the stock pistons feel stiffer than the new shocks with the option pistons (same oils).

again I was clear as mud. My EX is being used in a class I have never run before. I run my Photon in 17.5 blink, and because of my recent success I decided to build an EX for 13.5 my Photon set up is way different than my EX.

I too found EX responded well to higher inner front camber link. Really improved car balance, also made steering response much more linear.

thats interesting alan,as i removed the shim from the inner camber link & found the car responded better coming out of the corners & then reduced the ackerman shims by .5 mm & made it even better (for me anyway)
it now has an edgey feel to it which i like

Yeah, I remember we spoke about that on Friday night.

I removed the shim later that night too, this change had the same effect on my EX as yours ... however you might recall my car was already 'edgey' and loose on power, so just made it worse.

Probably due to our set ups being different I guess.

Interestingly, roll centres and camber link settings on my EX are now very similar to those on my Awsomatix

Default gear diff belt tension

rear belt tension between ball diff & gear diff,if using a gear diff do you run the belt slightly tighter than you would with a ball diff, heard this somewhere around a race track cant remember where, just after some info as now that the car is sorted & dirrect comparison between the ex and the photon is complete i"m going to install a gear diff & see how it compares to the ball diff

thanks
