Thanks, Kevin, good to know. Do you like it better than the stock X1?

Default Side Dampner

I picked up a used f1r.

The side dampner leaked horribly. I rebuilt it with new orings from associated and still leaks pretty bad. It basically looks like an r5 side dampner but black. Am I missing something or do they just leak horribly?

I ordered am f1r a couple days ago, can't wait for it to arrive!

@ J.Gonzalez, probably missing something. I have built many ae side shocks and exotek black side shocks. They can be tricky to bleed the air from but I have never had one leak. Only problem I have run across with the exotek ones is the piston breaking free from the shaft but that would not cause a leak. Before you screw the plastic ends on did you make sure the o-ring is sitting perfectly flat? If not that means there is too much oil in it and the end cap is probably going ok crooked and letting the oil out.

Yeah but its a wide car. I want to make sure I'm still fast with a narrow car.

I had issue with my shock as well the piston broke off the shaft. I replaced it with the new damper tube from the X1/V2 and it works much better IMO.

The side damper is an AE one done in black...honestly I think this is an interestingly designed shock but has one major design flaw in the cap. Because the threading is so fine the plastic of the cap often strips and can leak or even come completely apart. They really should have used an aluminum collar to hold the cap on like on the top of the CRC shock or Hot Bodies shock. I currently have a damper tube on mine that I took off of one of my pan cars.

My cap must have completely come off also. I couldn't tell what was going on. The car drove fine. LOL. I will clean it up and take a look. I like it soft in the rear anyway.

Edit: The cap had not popped off. It was fine.

On a F1R? probably not... but probably on a F104 being it is made for them and a tamiya hop up option.

Shoot. I thought I was on f104 forum. Sorry.
But the part should fit on f1r, right?

F1R is almost a roller. I'm opting for the servo forward/horizontal config. I need to stop by the LHS for 16mm screws and about 6mm worth of spacers for each side. I ended up cracking one of the side spring perches, so much for the don't over tighten warning. The LHS should have those too. I still have to trim down the outer ring on the rubber tire rims, paint the centers, mount and glue tires. My tire truer and a file will make quick work of the rims. I'm hoping to have it on the track by the first weekend in Jan.
