Default Shock question

What oil would all of you recommend for the side damper? I run wide foam on a low-medium carpet track, with a mix of technical and fast sections. My F103 ran best with very heavy damping on the plates, so I'm curious what to use here.

Anyone have some good pics of their ESC mounting for these cars. I'm using a Novak Edge ESC and I am not really liking the options so far for mounting it. Looking for some good ideas.

You can bend a piece of lexan at 90* to make a mount if you don't want to lay it flat.

Do you also sell F1 parts?

What are the chances of just buying a Exotek F1R complete roller?

Well my F1R ran pretty good today...right up until my rear tire shredded. I am finding though that the fronts seem to not quite have enough grip and I have quite a bit of push. I found running quite a bit of drag brake to get the front to bite has been working but I'd like a bit more grip up front. Any other tire suggestions to get this to work better?

I cannibalized parts #D13 and D14 on the F104 D parts tree to use as vertical mounts for my electronics (i'm using an Edge ESC as well; it doesn't mount well sideways at all). The mounts are secured to the aluminum center posts.

I measured out the exotek posts and noticed their OD was 5.5mm. After carefully reaming the existing hole on the plastic parts with a 7/32 (5.55mm) drill bit, they fit perfectly over the shafts.

Here are a few photos attached.:

Shimizu 71 fronts will get you lots of steering What fronts are you running now?

You might try running a shorty pack and then mounting the esc in the extra battery space.

Every track is different. Start heavy if you wish then time your laps. Then try unhooking 1 end of the shock and run some more timed laps. Compare and se if its faster with heavy damping or no damping. From there you will know if you should run light or heavy. I always seem to run more consistently with lighter vcs damping. Maybe not ballistic hot laps but faster overall race times results.

I'm using them and am absolutely sold. They have lots of rip- maybe too much if your car is not set up to handle it

That's too bad Tamiya USA TCS series is allowing Tamiya Foams because testing has shown the Tamiya rubbers are just not very good on carpet.
If you must use Tamiya rubber then the key will be tire sauce prep I assume. You need to use something that prevents slime build up and carpet fibers from sticking to the tires. This seems to be the problem the Tamiya rubbers. Jack the gripper might help...?

You do have the good stuff then

This is what I do for more steering;

Zip tie the servo saver- tightens up the spring for more initial steering
Add more front camber
Zero front toe in
Add a little bit of rear pod droop
Soft front springs

As a last resort I move my shorty pack forward.

You can also go heavier on the side springs and top spring but I think it makes the car too aggressive and inconsistent for asphalt.

Well it is on asphalt and the rear grip on my F1R is good with my setup...our other F1R is struggling a bit with rear grip and had to go to softs...anyway I don't want to mess with the rear so I'll give camber and springs up front a try.
