So I opened both diffs and noticed the rear was completely empty of oil leaked from gasket, front still had a good amount left but leaking from the o-ring. Cleaned both out and put AW grease for now as I can't have any drips in my basement track. Can't recommend this approach for racing as it's too open.

Do they not sell ball diffs for this car?

Edit: So I found out TA05's use to run ball diffs in the rear (full lock on front), but the ball diff was unsealed. They apparently sell covers for the balls, but that is just an ancient design. Even I from my 15yr hiatus think that's a dated design.

So do you guys think if I doubled up on the oil gear diff gasket (I have spares) that might prevent the leakage?
Green slime is only a bandaid fix, imho. Not sure why Tamiya did not make a little lip and groove along the inside of the diff housing like sealed containers they sell at the Container Store.

Also ordered some Kyosho 5mm o-rings, 3K and 5K weight diff oils. Will rebuild them over the weekend I guess.

So I tried the SportTuned 380 motor last night with a 17 tooth pinion running my 1/16 size NanoTechs. Very good speed, about 8min run until my Lipo starts hitting 3.80v cut-off. By that time the motor is hot even with the fan running, so I guess it's a fairly optimized run time. I should probably be running 16teeth.

But the sucky part is that even the AW grease started leaking from the rear diff. So I will be re-doing at least the rear diff starting with the 3000 weight oil tomorrow.

Anyone ever tried double stacking the gasket? Did that help any?

So I got my 3000 weight AE diff oil so did the slime approach rebuild on the rear diff yesterday. I also used 3 shims instead of 2 on the outdrive cup (o-ring sides) to rid play. The outdrives still spin freely less friction with o-ring.

Front is still just the AW grease, very light action almost an open feel...how I want it for my little track. I got the car to rotate pretty well out of turns with the rear 3000 weight, no more plowing. I got 5000 weight oil today so I will rebuild the other diff as soon as my Kyosho o-rings come in. I have another diff set coming to me so that I can try other weights as well.

That sport tuned 380 has good power with my 16teeth pinion. I like it a lot.
Absolutely no traction issues with the M-Four even on my soso grip track. I love this little car, it is perfect for me! I'm going to order a few more and just keep them in my parts bin.

Just myself in my small track at home.
The M-four is faster than my M05 and V2.

Ha, that's what I'd do with it too. I just haven't made the plunge yet, I'm on the fence between that and a M05V2

In this case, I would definitely go with the M-Four. My V2 is cool, but no where near the performance level of the M-Four. Plus, carbon fiber and real aluminum dampers are way cool!

I got the 5000 weight AE diff oil last night, will test drive it later today.

I also re-oiled all the dampers. Ones with the x-rings had almost no detectable amount of leak (normal), factory clear o-ring ones leaked. Rebuilt and replaced with the blue x-ring.

Do you guys know if HPI's m-sized wheels can fit the 60D tires? I want to try other wheels, especially the gunmetal ones they used on the CupRacer Datsun 510.

I'm almost positive they do, but its been a few years since I played with the HPI wheels. I know the guys over on the m05 thread would know right away.

Well I just blew the budget on the martini Alfa re-release. I guess I'll pull the trigger on the M4 in a couple months.

I thought so too, but the CupRacer wheels are slightly larger.
Did not fit..

Cool, have fun with your new car!

So I tried the 5000 weight diff oil in the back. Exactly what I was looking for! Kept the front just AW grease (loose) and the car handles beautifully on my track.

Been running the 3 shims each side vs 2 + Green slime + 5000 weight AE diff oil in the rear for 10 days now, and no issue with oil leaks!

I forgot to update. About 2 wks ago I noticed minor leaking by the outdrive cups on my front diff with the AW grease. So I switched to the Kyosho o-rings ORG 05 while loading the front diff with 3000 AE diff oil.

This appears to help a lot. No more leaks that I can detect after 10x driving. 3000/5000 (front/rear) diff oil appears to give a nice neutral balance.

Anyone install a center one-way on these M-Fours?

If so, which PN did you use? TIA!
