Tamaya Tl-01

Just started tinkering with my on road car again after a few years. Just found this forum and found that the Tl-o1 can only cope with something like a 17 turn motor otherwise it will just drift everywhere. Is there anything that can be done to upgrade it to take the likes of a HPI flux 3.5t motor? Or would i be best buying a new car? If so which would be suggested at a reasonable budget?

Cheers, Kyle

its too old , obselete design. Very brittle chassis & cracks very easily on crashes. Parts are cheap though.
3.5T motor is far to fast for it. 17T will be fine.

Tamiya TB03 is a good fun (non race) car, much better than TL-01. Ive had both.

Cheers, have a 17t in it at the minute. Doesnt seem to last too long, how long should a 2300maH battery last with that motor?

Im running a 9turn EZrun motor.

Tamiya original parts copes fine. I once had a 4.5T corally in it.

I also had some non original driveshafts and so on. they all broke.

I still have the Yeah racing driveshafts.. they are bendt. reminds more about a corkscrew..

That said the Gear diffs are not indestrutible. I broke one of the pins on the star that goes in the middle. That was with the EZrun.

it can take some abuse.. Main problem is traction roll with standard size servo on carpet. If it tends to get tail happy on the brakes, lock the front diff.. and tighten the rear diff a bit. and get +2 toe inn rear hubs.

My best advice is to use tamiya upgrades/parts. or a brand you allready know delivers.

Keep in mind , these ARE NOT a serious RC car. Ok for a bit of fun, that it.
Yeah, ive run 9T & 5T in mine. The gears etc can cope....
The big problem is cornering. this car car do it at those speeds.
So a 9T, 5T or 4T is great in a straight line, the car was NEVER intended for those speeds. Its hopeless for fast cornering

The dogbones with the white plastic on the end are quite weak. get the newer tamiya solid dogbones.
Speed gear set is worthwhile as well.
But, the car is completely obselete. dont waste too many $$$ on it.

You can also put the baja arms on it (from a TL-01b) to make it wider. It helps to stop it rolling.

heres one of mine, before I broke it. Its a chop job that I built for a fun project. Ive broken 4 chassis so far, but they are cheap . :-)

Any pics of the before/during/after?
I have one of these as a hack and being shorter and wider could be fun!
