1) how does the plastic look? Is it stiff enough vs. durable enough?
It looks cool, will have to see how it works.
This is not a high level kit out of the box for sure, lots of flex from the chassis and plastic parts.

2) how does the body length appear? Looks like it's long in both the front and rear, will it affect running on a tight track?
Wheelbase is similar to current cars, the RM is about 5mm narrow by comparison.
3) does the front ride height look easily adjustable? Standard shims or something else? Standard rear ride height adj or Tamiya unique?
Front ride height is adjustable with washer/shims, rear uses Tamiya F1 adjuster block, similar to standard stuff, but unique Tamiya sizes.
4) would you run the 380 motor when you run against us so we have a chance?
What you do get with this kit is a very highly detailed retro body with the best decals in the industry, Tamiya wheels, tires and driver figure.

Tamiya have options coming, like HBR foams and aluminum pitch, and roll dampers.

Time will tell if Tamiya decide to produce a TRF version of the 12th scale ?

This RM-01, imo, is more of a TCS/Retro class car.

I have ran 1/12th on 380 and LiFe,it is the perfect speed to enjoy these cars, why even bother trying to use Lipo and brushless? 380 and LiFe has much closer racing than current 1/12th. And at the speed the 380 and LF run body selection isnt as important. It already has the wing mount for the Can Am Lola on the back of the chassis. Hopefully people will understand the concept and not try and make it into class that nobody runs.
Its a shame that the first thing to go is the 380 and LiFe, brushless and LiPo is not part of the concept from Tamiya.
They might make a pro version but a TRF Version would be completely different in concept than this.
I know Tamiya Japan is running 380 and LF,thats is the TCS rules, hopefully TCS American will not screw it up.

How much difference in speed is there from 1s 17.5 blinky to the 380/life.
I haven't compared the two as Tamiyausa do not import the life cell for this car.

Found a simple way to use standard 64p spur gears.
72t will not clear the diff backing plates, 78t fits fine.

Standard 12th rear wheels fit, but maintaining ride height will require larger diameter tires than most 12th scale cars run, Tamiya apparently wanted this car to run 52-45mm tires, try much smaller than that and the chassis will run out of clearance.
Options I see are to use Tamiya RM-01 foams, or F1 foams.
Full size Jaco Rear tires will work, just...

To check max rollout, that's a 78x55 gear for 116+mm roll and stock 52.5mm tires.
Gear selection shouldn't be an issue for 17.5 blinky 1s where 85-110mm roll are the average over a broad range of motors and tracks.

A123 makes the batteries for Tamiya so you should be able to get the A123 pack state side.
The 380 and LF makes it feel like a very old 1/12th, so they are faster than M chassis 540 running lipo. I know it might seem very slow but its nice to mix up the bodies and have them hang together, most of the older style bodies can run together without haveing a huge difference in performance. We mix the Can Am lola,Toyota and TOJ and they will run about the same lap times.
Even had the wing fall off the back of the Can Am Lola a few times and it didn`t make much of a difference.

Hola DB, aren't you running a booster on the Twekin or is it not necessary? I'm trying to organize some elelectronics in anticipation of the kits being available to us mortals. As you know, I've never run 1cell or 4cell anything (of my own atleast)...ever

Hey Hot Rod
For the Tekin, yes there is a TQ booster there.
With LRP no booster necessary.

TRF f103gt damper might be a good hop-up for this.

Yes, please do a retro 1/12 class with life & 380. vintage r/c car racing is really refreshing.
