I am looking to upgrade the steering servo in my XXX-S. Don't ask what it is now - trust me, it needs replacing... Here is what I have been looking at and trying to decide between - please let me know your opinions on these - money IS a factor, unfortunately.

Specs based on 6.0v

Airtronics 94360 - $115
.07sec - 125oz

Futaba S9402 - $80
.10sec - 111oz

Hitec HS-925MG - $73
.08sec - 103oz

Others????

futaba S3003, its cheap. just chuck in some metal gears and a servo saver and your set.

Stay away from hitec, and look into Ko servos. Ko Propo servos, IMO, are the best...

You know, I was looking pretty heavy at the Hitec, and had someone else tell me the same thing.... Interesting....

hitec are OK for r/c planes. i dont know about the r/c car and hitec mixture though.

Some Hitec have problems.

KO is very good, but you pay for the quality.

Airtronics 94357 is normally $100.00. It is very fast and very reliable.

I will be upgrading my 94357 to a KO very soon.

I do have a Hitec HS Digital. Supposed to be indistructable with no servo saver required. Had a fet blow on it and ruin a race. Something is messed up on it from a hard hit, after 1st repair. The gears seem fine (which they claim are indistructable) the centering is messed up. The support has been good and they replaced it. Wondering what they will do the 2nd time.

Went back to analog Airtonics 94358 for around $100.
4.8v 160/.13
6.0v 200/.10

I had reservations being slower or torquey. I was wrong. The thing you notice is it will not let go in the corners like some of the cheaper/less torqey ones do. I do not notice a lack of speed. After shearing some plastic Heavy Duty servo arms I used a 1/8 gas Kimbrough servo saver.

You can judge a servo by life and longevity. Sometimes you might get a bad apple from a bunch of excellent servos. I have had Futabas never fail and this Airtronics is going on 3 years.

if u check ebay, u can find futaba s9450 servos going for a good price...

every once in a while i see some at a good price...

Futaba 9450 3 seasons and still going...........different chassis' but same old servo, very good choice IMO. reliable and strong

How about the Futaba 3010?

Standard case size and very light weight, and plentiful.

0.16 and 10 less oz of torque for @ $25

You can't think as fast as the servo and more torque will just break stuff.

I broke a TC3 steering post loose last year when I got hit very hard. I had no idea until it was in the pits that anything was wrong.

I've some guys using standard servos but, they eventually get tired and cause collisions. Save your money.

I would definately recomend KO servos. I am using a 2113fet servo with a 2123 metal gear set. Lightning fast and only cost me 50$ Not digital but the next best thing. You dont need a digital unless your driving skills are up there.

IMO, the 9451 is the best value servo ever, for what you get for 80 bucks.
