Default Team Orion Race/Zillisheim

Are any of you guys going to the International Team Orion Indoor Race in Zillisheim/France next weekend? Will be the first of the big European Indoor meetings this winter and will be held on carpet with handout rubber tires. Would be nice meeting some guys from the forum there. I think at least someone from France and the UK may attend.

The Team Orion Indoor Race in Zillisheim/France was held last weekend and it was held the seventh time now. As always it´s one of the first big indoor races during the winter season in Europe just the CS Open in Germany was held before. Even when some drivers from the UK and the Scandinavian countries didn´t attend this time, maybe as the worlds were held just before, there were about the same number of drivers. A very strong number of drivers were from France, Switzerland and Germany with other drivers from Italy and Belgium. Just one driver from Denmark this time but it was our wellknown Steen Graversen. Steen and Marc just were back from the worlds and had to travel a long way again for this race.
The track was exactly the same as the year before so fast and demanding again. The carpet is very different to the ones used in Germany at least so grip and handling didn´t work for everybody.
But the controltires used were much better this time. The Take Off CS27 were used as a complete wheel already glued together with JB foam inserts and Team Orion hard wheels. Every driver got a set of wheels included in the racing fee.
Beside the modified class there also was run a stock class called Amateur class where a handout 23T Team Orion motor had to be used along with the handout brushes and springs. This motor also was included in the racing fee in this class. The Modified class was using the 12T limit as usual in Europe. Traction compound was free of choice but had to be the nonsmelling type.

Free practice was not available due to the number of drivers and the limited time. But there were held 4 rounds of controlled practice in heats configuration and 3 rounds of qualifying with only the fastest round counting. Some drivers would have preferred 3 rounds of practice and 4 rounds of qualifying as 3 qualifying rounds aren´t really much. In fact some of the drivers ended on an unusual position as they had some DNF or just bad luck during the 3 rounds.

Right from the beginning Marc Rheinard dominated the modified class with his TRF415. Steen Graversen was on second position after the first round with about 6 seconds behind. Steen used both his EVO IV and 415 during practice but went for the 415 then during the race. Later he was on 5th position on the grid. Team mate Marc Fischer had problems in the 1st and 2nd round and was way behind but had a very good run in the last round which put him on the 3rd place on the grid.
HPI/LRP driver Benni Gröschel was very fast again and looked like the one who could prevent Marc from winning. He qualified on 2nd place with about 3.59 seconds behind Marc. Because of studies Benni doesn´t have time for practice and attendes very few races. Despite this he also showed some impressive driving.

After qualifying was over Marc Rheinard was on TQ as expected and overall 6 of the 10 cars in the A-Main were TRF415. Also there were 3 HPI Pro4 and one Losi XXX-S. No EVO4, TC3 or X-Ray in the A-Main.
In the A-Mains Marc drove his clean and fast style and easily won round 1 and 2 of the A-Mains so won this race also. As always it was a pleasure watching Marc on the track.
Steen Graversen finished in 2nd position in the first round of the A-Main with Ronald Völker on 3rd place. Benni Gröschel finished on 4th position. In the 2nd round Benni finished on 2nd position Marc Fisher on 3rd and Steen on 4th position.
So the 3rd round had to decide which driver would be 2nd overall. Benni didn´t have good luck and had a mistake which put him back to 4th place. Marc Fischer won this round with Marc Rheinard 2nd and Steen 3rd.

Overall result was in this order:

1. Marc Rheinard TRF 415/Team Orion
2. Marc Fischer TRF 415/Team Orion
3. Steen Graversen TRF 415/Team Orion
4. Benni Gröschel HPI Pro4/LRP
5. Ronald Völker TRF 415/Team Orion
6. Mario Rigert Losi XXX-S/Fantom
7. Jerome Carpentier TRF415/Corally
8. Steven Weiss TRF 415/Team Orion
9. Guido Barbera HPI Pro4/Team Orion
10. Moritz Habermann HPI Pro4/LRP

In the Amateur/stock-class also a German driver was a class of his own. HPI/LRP driver Dennis Fadtke TQed and won all of the 3 A-Mains with his Pro4. Team Orion driver Thomas Günsel qualified on 2nd position with his TRF415 and also finished 2nd.

Overall result:

1. Dennis Fadtke HPI Pro4/LRP
2. Thomas Günsel TRF 415/Team Orion
3. Loic Jasmin TRF 415/Team Orion
4. Remi Couvrour Associated TC3
5. Regis Delbouille Xray
6. Kevin Meeus Corally RDX/Corally
7. Lucas Urban Xray
8. Andre Denicola LOsi XXX-S/SMC
9. Nick Joosens Schumacher Mi2/Team Orion
10. Gregory Monchy Associated TC3

News and Facts:
Marc did not only won this race but........... also had birthday on sunday. He is 18 years old now. At the price giving he also was presented a birthday cake.

After winning the worlds Marc will have his own motor at the Team Orion motor range. Oscar had one with him and was raced by Marc. So it´s a Team Orion Revolution V2 Marc Rheinard Worlds Edition. Picture is below.

According to Marc there will be no TRF415 Marc Rheinard Edition. The TRF415 MS edition is just to be released and it also takes a lot of time for releasing a special edition. Surikarn also had to wait one year until the EVO3 Surikarn Edition was released.

Marcs father Uwe decided he wanted to have fun also at this race and raced in the amateur-class. He borrowed a Yokomo CGM and qualified for 1st place in the C-final.

Most seen body at this race was the Protoform Mazda6 as used by Marc Rheinard and most of the modified drivers. Marc´s worldchampionship winning Mazda is at Tamiya now so he had to use a plainwhite body.
Also the Stratus 1 could be seen very often. Benni Gröschel and Amateur-class winner Dennis Fadtke used the HPI Aero2. Jerome Carpentier used a Tamiya Subaru B4. Marc had a Ride Honda Accord from the worlds with him but didn´t use this at the race.

By far mostseen car was the TRF415 with most of them with the stock suspension. Steen Graversen and Jerome Carpentier used the new suspension so this also is fast enough for an A-Main on carpet.

Marc´s car was basically a stockbone TRF415. He just used some prototype damperstays from the very first 415 and the aluminium rear uprights.

Marc Rheinard and Marc Fischer both used the new Hara Twister 2 ESC.

Below you will find some pictures from the race. It was a little dark in that building and my Digicam doesn´t like this. So a lot of the pictures are too bad for posting.
