Hi Guys,

My name is James, I'm a 26 yr old working musician from Leeds, UK.

I've been looking at F1 RC for a while and i've decided to go with 1:10, Electric.

I think I'm going to go with the 3 Racing F1-09 Chassis w/Yellow Tamiya Spring + CSC Side Mod, HPI Saturn 20T, HPI SC-15 ESC & Prolux Digital High Torque Metal Geared Servo.

I'm a complete newbie to this, although I've experience in models and electronics I make Valve HiFi units for a hobby so hopefully I'll have some transferable skills for building the kit.

I was just hoping you guys on here could tell me if the items i've picked for the F1-09 are any good and also what handset,receiver, battery and pinion you'd suggest.

You've picked a fine car. As far as motor and speed control, you might consider a Brushless system later on for efficiency and reliability. As for radio, I would suggest a nice 2.4 gig system. Just one that fits your budget and needs.

Thanks! Still a bit baffled as to which pinion gear to use with this setup?
Also how much down force do these cars generate? Are the wings worth experimenting with?how about the abc diffusers?

I've seen the Japanese article but still baffled on downforce as the figures seem low for the scale?

You'll find that 2wd RC is a difficult start to the RC world but with practice you'll get the hang of it.

I'd suggest a lot of reading...the guys here who have Tamiya f104's and F1-09's have posted some excellent information on all aspects of gearing, tire prep and etc.

My first suggestion to you is to stick to a stock level power system (aka silver can). Grip levels for the F1 class of cars can be easily overpowered with low turn BL systems.

Is this in reference to the pitch or the teeth?

One thing I can reccomend is get several wing sets. if your class allows you to mix/match, do it. gind the right amount fo downforce for the front and rear that you like.
