Digital Servo Question

Hey all...I have a question that someone may be able to help out with...

I have a KO Mars. Original model (orange handle type).

I want to use a digital servo for my steering...Do I need a special Rx with a digital servo...or can I simply buy the servo I want and not worry about it?

My Rx is the KO Propo KR-297FZ.

Thanks,

-Soviet

you can use a digital servo no problem,
if you update to one of the new radios (HELIOS) then you HAVE to run digital servos, but you'll be fine

You don't have to run digital servos with the Helios, you just can't run their "ASR" mode without them.

It's normal, that the servo makes a little humming.

Yes, you can run digital servos.

I'm using a KO PDS 2123 with my 297Z.

servo torque

I have looked at numerous threads about servos and I hear people reccomending 60 oz/in or even 80 oz/in on the torque for 1/10 electric touring.

Is that much torque really needed for steering?
I had this stock Futaba servo 3003 it rated 44 torque
Right now I am using a older Futaba s132h it is rated at 25 oz/in torque and .13 at 6 volts.

If the reccomendations are correct than my servo is a bit weak.

What about the micro servos some of them are very cheap and have a speed of .09 and torque of 42 (Hitec HS81MG $23.49)?

You want a high amount of torque to keep your wheels pointed where the radio is telling them to go. Furthermore, the speed of a servo says very little about its performance under higher loads. So, two servos may have the same rated speed, but a higher torque servo will probably perform better. For that reason, you will rarely see someone use a 1/12th scale servo in TC.

You'll always have mixed reviews with hitec servos. If it works fine, then great! But, you may want to save up a little more and get a KO, airtronics, or futaba servo. The complaints on these brands tend to be fewer.
