Schottey Diode

Schottey Diode
Hi,
I got a question on Schottey diode. I have a Ko VFS ESC, and the schottey diode is borken. Do I have to buy the KO schottey diode for it? or I can use any brand of schottey diode?
some people I met at tracks told me that I might not even need a schottey diode. They had various brand of ESC, and some of them says that even without the schottey diode, their ESC is working fine. Is that true?
Thanks for any input.

You can use any Schottey diode....it is better to have them installed. Stops feedback into the ESC when you are off throttle....you may be able to run for months with no problems....but you only have to burn out one expensive ESC to make yourself look really stupid for the sake of such a cheap component!!! Some ESC already have the schottey inside the unit (Tekin).

By the way guys, it schottky not schottey. You can use ordinary rectifier diodes, hi amp rating the better.

what's the specs on this diode anyways?

so if the ESc comes with the diode, and we solder another in, is it ok to solder anothe rextra ones on the motor??

Even if the esc has a built in schottey diode you should still use an external one on the motor. Don't use more than one external diode as this may cause negative affects.

Usually you dont need that many with onroad but you might need more then 1 on motor off road as you much more brake.

so the diode is only meant for a forward//brake esc.... not for forward//reserve type of esc....
what will be the effects with and without the diode on the performance of the car?

Ko's diode isn't that good. I had one with my VFS ESC from Ko. the diode came off it's post during the soldering procedure to the motor.
I think that's why KO has developed a new super diode which suppose to give you more punch fromt he ESC...

I know diode is to protect the ESC. However, that's what Koprop's site says, the new diode will protect the ESC, plus give you more punch out of it.
Believe it or not... that's what Ko is claiming..

i also heard that diode is to protect the esc, claims from LRP.
whether it will give more punch, i am not sure. anyone can confirm or prove it??? i thought only batteries will decide the punch of the car??
Correct me if I am wrong.
