Sway Bars?
I know what sway bars are for but are the ones that come on the TA04 R useable? They seem awfully thin and even by reducing the slop at the set screws in the chassis they don't seem to be doing their job....?

Manny,
I am certainly no expert on setting up these cars but my advise is drive the car with the sway bars on and then again with them removed and see if your car handles differently. If you notice a difference decide whether you like that difference or not.
Thats what I did, and in the end I chose to leave them off altogether. Thats my own choice though and you may feel differently.
For every 5 people I know who swear by Sway Bars I know 5 others who don't use them.
In my opinion Sway Bars are just another tuning option and its up to you whether or not you like how they affect the handling of your car.

Manny,
An important reason why some racers don't like them is that they,re afraid the bars will be tweaked.
Make sure you're sway bars are allway straight!!!!
Don't just toss em into your toolbox, or you'll bent them.
Steevo's advice is OK.

Pizza

i agreed wif steevo.
this is my guide line when setting up my car...
always do 1 change at a time then test drive ur car 2 feel the differences, tat way u will know how it affect ur car.
also keep notes of the changes tat u do,i have a book which i record down the changes n effects...

Manny - When I was driving TA04, I could easily feel the difference between a red and yellow sway bar (and vice versa.) On the 414M, I can't feel a single difference, probably because there are no grub screws, like the TA04, holding the swaybars.

I'm with Manny on this one. I've been trying to figure out how they actually can work. They seem to work when you take the shocks off and don't control the droop at all, but obviously, this will never happen on the track. Are you guys tightening the grub screws down all the way? They really aren't swaybars if you do that, but I can see them having an effect on the suspension if I do that.
Manny, you up for racing on the rug this Sat? I plan to head out to Stockton and race. You too, Mark! Let's go!

Thanks
Thanks, for the input guys..I'll certainly try them out before I come to any real conclusions. Psycho, I haven't tightened the grub screws down all the way because I thought they're there just to help minimize play.

Follow up on weights!!
I beat you to it Steevo... (LOL)
I just received the 52001 carbon saddle pack chassis.
Here's the deal so far.
(only bottom plate!!!)
FRP chassis (incl plastic batt.holder) 143grams
Carbon chassis (incl Pure-tech batt straps) 69grams
THAT"S 74 GRAMS (easiest hop up there is.
I gather the weight distribution and lower cg also should do something!

Steevo,
Mine was the TamiyaUSA (NOT Japan) Carbon SADDLE pack chassis set.
52001 (Is not availabale in HK or Japan)
Yours is the Tamiya Japan/world Carbon plate set.
Should be available worldwide.
I don't have the numbers of that one.
Good luck.

Ahh I see.
Actually I am thinking of making up a custom made version from some 3mm carbon fibre sheet. I'm Also in the process of designing carbon fibre covers for the front and rear diffs which should be very sweet indeed.

TO LUBE OR NOT TO LUBE
That is The Question.....
I was just wondering... does everyone lube up their pinion/Spur gears??
I couldn't find in the Tamiya Assembly Instructions anywhere where it actually says to apply grease to the Spur or Pinion.
I currently use a Teflon Based Dry Lube used for bicycle chains but due to the position of the gears it still picks up a lot of minute stones and dirt.
I was wanting to hear if anyone uses no lube at all??? Or do you all use no lube and I am the only silly one
I am just trying to avoid attracting all that grit and thought running no lube might be the go...
