Bit for a Twister Comm lathe
I recently purchased a used Twister Comm lathe and it arrived with a pretty dull carbide bit and a chipped diamond bit.
Does anyone know where the best place to purchase a new carbide bit for this lathe would be? I've never used a comm lathe before so, I want to get a carbide bit for learning purposes before I spring for a nice new diamond bit. |
You don't need a new carbide bit. You need a diamond file to sharpen yours.
www.mcmaster.com p/n 8168a13 coarse $19.22 or call 562-692-5911 you might want to pick up a couple of bits too. p/n 3367a121 $3.42 You will need the file to put a tip on the bit, they come with the correct angles but the tip is rounded. |

Hey Jack,
Why the course file and not the fine grit one? |
Makes it easier to get a the tip onto a new bit. From what I hear, not much difference in the point with either file.

A bench top grinder with a "green" wheel does wonders too. Made specifically for sharpening carbide bits.
