So as for comparison, the reedy is just as fast as a d3.5.
Ok thanks.

Read about a few of them smoking only a few heats in and what not, bearings going out in the first night. If I do pick up one of these I'm going to wait a while to see if they can figure some of the issues out.

Anyone on here run the sonic 550's? Just wanted some feedback before I go and buy a 4.5t. I run the pro4 4000 or 4600 indoor but want to try and go back to 550 for outdoor season.

With the motors geared the same, the reedy out of the box was dead slow, but was still reaching 125 degrees. Timing was at 20 degrees out of the box.

Tried turning timing to 30 degrees, and the temps stayed about the same, but car had more top end.

Geared down 2 teeth, turned timing up to 40, and car felt the same. Still feels very sluggish, motor gets hot (150 degrees), still slower then my old dead orion.

Can't really tell if I just got a bad motor out of the box or what? I know it's not the car, as I just swapped motors with what was already in the car. Gear mesh is not too tight, checked it before and after each run.
125 and even 150 is not what I would consider hot. If you are really pushing the motor for max power and speed you would be around 180.

What is your gear ratio? and which car? In TC you would probably want to be around 45 degrees timing.

The team AE guys run them with good results and in my opinion a 2-pole 550 is a better performing motor than a 4-pole 540. A 4.5 will be good on a small track but the 4.0 might be a better option if you ever run on larger outdoor tracks.

Most of our tracks are on the smaller side so I'm going to give the 4.5 a try. Thanks

Rick - I know you don't run spec classes but what the the reports from the team on the Mach 2 13.5? What's different on track compared to the previous Sonic BL?

I need to get some new motors for 1/12 13.5 and WGT. Back in the brushed days I loved the Quad Mag Spec 19, Sonic and Ti Mods. I found them faster and more consistent quality wise (better bearings, better balance, better windings, fewer duds) than other manufacturers.

Hi all, I'm giving 17.5 blinky ago and need some advice on timing on the motor. Motor is a Reedy Sonic Mach 1. Speedo is a LRP Flow Works Team.

I hear of guys who just crank the timing on the motor to the max. Is it as simple as that?

I crank the timing and gear accordingly. Currently I'm geared at 4.3 max timing on a 100' x 48' carpet track coming off under 150F

They guys say the motor is faster all around although we are not talking huge differences. Everyone is very happy with the performance plus with the alloy end cap the timing adjustment is more positive and less prone to moving accidentally.

I'd start with 45 deg and go from there.

Adrian,
I ran my Mach 2 at Village Raceway a couple weeks ago in a club race. Most were running the D3.5 and I was just as fast as those guys. Had my timing at 35 with a FDR of 3.6.

Hey guys, got a question about the sonic mach 2

Tried to pull it part like the old Mach 1 but found that the stator will not detach from the outer case on the sensor end

Was wondering if this is a new design or mine is stuck?

Thanks

Yours is definantely stuck. I've pulled mine apart and it comes apart just like the mach 1

Part no. 972 bearings don't fit the Mach 2?
