i just bought this charger here

is it not a good idea to use it to discharge batteries cuz it only has a 4A discharge rate?

if ya looking to cycle batteries then that baby will take for ever to do.....cause of the low discharge rate. I personally like all indi chargers . They have done well by me . If ya looking for a better discharger then look at the reactor 30 or 20 or make the 1157 bulb discharger... Indi also makes a sweet charger with a high discharger rate the 16x7v6. I would only use your discharger to finish off the pack after you come off the track. Even then it might take a while...

but will it hurt the batteries if i use it to discharge them. i read on dcrbatteries.com that u should only discharge at 30A otherwise u can mess up the batteries inside. i did't know if that's true or not

no i never heard of 4 amp doing that 40 yes not 4 u should be fine ....Just as i said before time consuming.

It wont really hurt the cells to discharge them at a slower rate, it will just take longer. It is best however to discharge at a consistent rate, which in most cases is 30 amps because that is what most battery matchers match the cells at. Likewise, it is best to always charge them at the same rate. Cells like being "trained" to always do the same thing. Definitely discharge them though, no matter what the voltage is. Even with the NiMh cells, they will last much longer if you discharge them.
