I'm using 35 and it's good. Temp is around 130F.
I'm still rookie with electric motors, perhaps our outdoor track isn't grippy enough?

I used to try 38, temperature was around 150-160, changed it down because the straight way is not long enough for the top speed, and I was struggle with low/mid speed acceleration.

FGX Project
After racing the fgx on carpet I have found that for the size of the tracks I run on the car is just not fast enough to compete against the DD cars, It handles fine but the straight away speed is lacking, so I am working on a little something. I cobled some spare parts together to make the mock up and I will be having some real parts made. I am currently working on cad drawings for the new design. Here is what I am doing.

TQRCracing described how to put an F104 front end on the F113. I think I saw it here on RC Tech, but you may find it at www.tqrcracing.com as well.

None of my mods showed drastic improvement. Re-gearing didn't show enough additional pace. On a long flowing track where this car doesn't have to slow down too much or where open motors are used, this car will be a gem. With 21.5 restricted timing on a twisty carpet track, I'm afraid this car just doesn't have it when geared where it should be. I ran 2 heats with the FGX yesterday. It drove great, perfect traction, ball diff was flawless, but just couldn't hold a candle to the F104 V2 guys on acceleration. So I put down the F1R and ran faster. Same brand Electronics and motor in both cars. Same timing, same gearing @ roughly 3.0 and it was night and day. I am going back to DD for indoors. Sad, but true.
