Anyone else displeased with the battery mounting system?

I have a Gens Ace 5000mah 40c battery that's too tall and hits the ball cup on the servo saver.

I have a smaller Zippy Flightmax that really just floats around in there.

It also seems the ESC mount/battery door isn't stiff enough to really hold the battery in place.

Should i just get some strapping tape and tape the battery in?
Strapping tape. That's what the slots in the chassis are for. The door is pretty much for mounting the speedo.

I did get my V2 front arms today (TQRC Racing shipping rocks!!}. The upper arms are beefier, and the lower arms have a teflon ball, instead of the aluminum ball.

And on the subject of the new front suspension. I'll let you guys beta test them. The FGX maybe inexpensive but like the real cars replacement parts can get expensive.
If they didn't beef up the lower arm then I guess we will now be waiting on the v3 arms.

I too am having heat issues with my TP 21.5, I'm using a Tekin RS in blinky mode. Tried several options ranging from 24-30 pinion / 35 spur and motor timing from 20-40. Are you running any motor timing ? I also am thinking it's an over rev situation ? Seems no matter what I've tried it runs hotter than I'd like. May go to a larger pinion and much lower timing just to see what happens.

Ordered one of these last week, should get it this week

Can anyone recommend a good Engine/ESC combo for this car? The track I race on is asphalt and quite fast, so a more powerful engine would be prefereable.

Would a Hobbywing 13T Ezrun be too powerful? Because thats what I use in my F104...

I think they are beefed up a bit. I didn't compare them side by side, but they seemed different to me. The delrin ball is nice. I haven't tried it out yet, waiting on parts again.

Good to know, slapped a wall last week and demolished a front hub and king pin, but no arms which is good. Have alot of stuff reinforced with carbon flat rod and CA.

That's the combo I run.
Built it box stock , with 2* rear toe blocks + Shimizu grooved softs all-round. No drama hooking up. The two F104s I had were pieces of $h!t in comparison....
I have used a 23t pinion with the kit gear set, esc timing on max and punch on minimum. I have the throttle E.P.A on 70-80% for our smallish indoor track. It run cool as a cucumber, so for a larger track it could be geared right up
Other guys are also running 17.5 blinky, speed should be similar , but the HW 13t is cheaper by around $60

Out of the box -yes. You can get the Tamiya to handle ok, with some of the advice on this forum, but you cant just plonk it down on the track and drive it.

The front arms are the weak point , but we will see how the upgraded ones go.
The irs and rear toe adjustment , plus zero maintenance diff sold me on this chassis ;-)

Second weak point is the upper deck. I would go ahead and reinforce this point as well. Once you fix the arms all of the energy of a hit is transferred to the deck. I'm experimenting with a set up now to see how well it holds up. I will also say our track can be brutal on the open wheel cars. The soft rubber tires really grab the walls hard when you touch them. I'm sure this has contributed to our upper deck issues but we have had at least 3 cars snap the deck in the same place over the last few weeks.

I haven't run it again yet, but it did go all the way up to a 36 tooth pinion for the next test. I think I was maxing the RPM as it wasn't really accelerating after about 1/3 of the straight on my one good long run. I have not changed from factory timing, 20*.
