Had an OH DUH moment. I broke the front nose on Sunday. I was trying to buy another and realized I had to buy the entire top deck assembly to get it. This led to me realizing that I can add a separate replaceable front carbon nose and attach it with the stiffener plate. This eliminates the need for the front machined nose mount part. Which because of its multiple setups and tapping was a much more expensive part. I raised the height of the wing a couple of mm for more clearance but it can be easily lowered with spacers.

Testing went very well tonight with my fastest lap in qualifying since I started. We run 3 minute quals with fastest lap determining your qualifying. I turned a 14.6 in both Q1 and Q2. Between rounds I did an experiment and added more front camber and sauced the entire front. The car became very on edge, very hard to drive, and fast as hell. I was able to run some 14.4s and one 14.294. The fastest Formula 1 lap every turned on this track at Timezone. Our class is becoming more like real F1 as we are leaning toward on edge qualifying setups and more stable drivable 10 minute main setups. Very cool. Now we just need to add a Q3 for the top 6 or so cars with a reset and we can all geek out.

Getting closer.

Hurry Troy! I'm down to using the upper deck from my second kit. Today on my second run, I tapped the throttle and the car pushed into the rail while heating up the tires to make a practice run. I'm all set to pick up 2 upgrade kits!

Several of my trips to the pits and TQrcRacing.com started that way.

First run was awesome though. It will be nice when the final piece of this puzzle is finally in place and I can trust the car completely.

very very nice. I wish our local track could have that kind of f1 turnout. we were doing ok until tamiya came out with the f104, after that f1 died because the newer cars were slower than the 103. they should have waited for the fgx before quitting f1.

F103s...same as the older F1 cars. Tamiya used that chassis for both F1 cars and GT1 cars. I see 4 Toyota GT1s, Porsche 911 GT1, a Courage LMP car, and an Audi LMP car in there. All are Tamiya bodies except the Porsche which could either be the Tamiya 911 GT1, the Protoform 911 GT1, or the Protoform Mulsane (which looks almost identical to their old 911 GT1).

I will want to change the body shell out and looks like the only other body shell that will work is the F60 from Tamiya from what I was reading, I really would like to put an older early 90's style body on it if possible and wanted to see if anyone had tried it. Something like the Lotus 99t or Tamiya C type.

I'll post some pics of the car tonight, now that it's built.

Could you post some pictures of the conversion?

Judging by the size of the track at TQ, is it safe to say that the fgx will do well on a tight carpet track? One of the tracks I race at is Middle River Hobbies which is similar in size to TQ, and has CRC carpet. Traction goes from none to a good groove between Wednesday and Saturday when onroad runs.

F104 based cars are king still at TQ. High grip and pan cars are a force here. When the UF1 series heads out doors that's when the FGX will shine.

A picture with your post, when trouble shooting, will probably get more rctech help than without...

FGX's do alright at Mikes in Dallas. Theres only 2 of them, and one of them (mine) doesnt race much, the other does very well. Equal driver though, edge on carpet goes to the pan. Or whichever Racer Robert has on the track.
