Been perusing this thread and finally decided to bite the bullet and get an FGX, I ended up buying Ed's FGX w/rabbit conversion and got it all put together last night.

I will want to change the body shell out and looks like the only other body shell that will work is the F60 from Tamiya from what I was reading, I really would like to put an older early 90's style body on it if possible and wanted to see if anyone had tried it. Something like the Lotus 99t or Tamiya C type.

I'll post some pics of the car tonight, now that it's built.

Congrats on the fgx / rabbit. I have one of these and absolutely love it. Very durable and very responsive to set up changes. We are currently building a second one right now.

As far as bodies I'm afraid I don't know the answer but the Ferrari and the fgx body fits perfectly. There is plenty of room under the shell but it does get a little tight by the rear shocks. I recently installed a shorty lipo and shifted it forward for the weight. This opened up a lot of room for wiring under the top deck. I'm sure other bodies will fit especially if you get everything tucked away.

I tried it a while back, with an MP4/6 body. The problem is the front wing. Low nose body on a high nose chassis. I wish I could find the pic.

Yeah but he's running the rabbit, so the low nose will be fine, with 103 suspension that is

Saves weight and power is not a issue if you go for the right one.

Get some shorty packs and perhaps you can gear up a bit.
I ran a shorty pack for a couple of weeks but could not get the balance of the car correct .. needed more weight. I think badaman is running a shorty and his car is a weapon so most likely my lack of setup ability and driving skill :-)

saw your post but I don't have much info for you. I run high grip carpet and I have the rabbit conversion done to my car. I posted what I am currently using in case it helps any. I have tried the hpi bridgestones and the shimizu grooved tires. Both worked well but the edge goes to the shimizu grooved tires. I would try the soft compound front and rear for low grip.

As you can probably tell I'm trying to free up my rear end a little. It seems too stiff. if I were setting up for asphalt I would start with a medium spring front and rear and 40-50 wt shock oil. I would also try the 1000 diff oil or maybe an 80 shock oil. Camber settings should probably be 1-1.5 front and 2 on the rear with a light to medium sway bar. I would set 0.5 toe out up front and 2 in on the rear. Again this is just an educated guess as I have not run the f1 on the asphalt yet. Sorry if this didn't help but I didn't want you to feel ignored. Welcome to the fgx game.

ps I'm currently running 0 to 1 mm rear droop but I am no where near set on this one. Still have a lot of experimenting to do.

I forgot that most run on carpet! here is where i am at right now:
FRONT
Soft springs
-3 camber
1*toe out
4mm ride height
+2 ackerman (havent tested yet though)
Med atomic damper grease on kingpins
RCshox slop bushings in the front
1mm droop
Shimizu med

REAR
kit springs
80wt 2hole pistons
zero rebound on shock build
3*toe plate
2mm antisquat
-1.5* camber
5mm ride height
2mm droop
med sway bar (1 down from the thickest)
shimizu soft

Some personal notes about the car:
If you have the aluminum knuckles, shelf em, they create more slop than the plastic ones by ALOT! I did some measuring last night and believe it or not there is nothing wrong with the shafts, they are only .0005 smaller than the bearing ID and that is correct for proper clearance. As someone stated a few pages ago it is the bearings (and i have ceramics!!). The shims i machined get the slop close to equal of a 104 and i think it is good enough as you really dont want to have zero slop it makes the car edgy.

Rear geometry to me is all out of whack! The lower arms go up at a pretty extreme angle while the upper link is parallel . In this configuration you dont get any camber gain ( or at least not enough). longer upper link just makes it worse! I am working on a fix for this which will include some new upper arms (dry carbon!!) along with spacers and such. It will be the first official RCshox FGX product!

With Mckunes and EXotech chassis coming soon I am not going to bother messing with that market, i cant efficiently cut thick carbon and that stuff is super toxic!

Yeah it has the 103 front suspension. I'll try and find a C type body set. I think F1 Paintlabs had some still. Thanks for the info.

The jacked up rear roll center is what is locking your rear end down, lower the inner camber link down as far as you can, mine is almost touching the driveshaft!

How are you getting the 2* antisquat?

I lowered the link and it created a bad traction roll in two of our turns and the tires were really light all around the track. I raised the roll center back up so the car was driveable in our races that night. I have made a spring and shock oil change and I liked the way the car was starting to feel. I think you are right. I wanted to lower the roll center and try it again but I ran out of time. I should be able to test it out Saturday.
