HPI Sprint 2 sport rear belts
My boy and I have about 5-6 runs on our HPI Sprint 2 Sports and the rear belt has come apart on mine and is starting to on his. Is this normal for these cars to do this? Is this a normal wear item that needs to be replaced regularly?
I looked in the manual and it says every 10 runs for rear belt maintenance by showing you to replace it..?.. I'm guessing this rear belt needs to be replaced often??:weird::confused: Yes, we have gotten stones caught in the belts at times and I see no belt tension adjustment for the rear belt. Anyone with these cars please give me some input on this. Thanks, Lynn |
The rear diff cover can be trimmed away. On my Xray, there's also a small cutout below the axle pulleys, to help eject rocks. Pretty much all the belted RC cars use the same pitch, but the sprint uses a less common 5mm wide belt. I don't know if you can get away with a 3mm belt (most common width), but might be worth a shot if you can find a cheaper version. There's a few good threads about which belts are interchangeable.

pebbles are going to ruin your belts very quickly so you want to tape up the chassis cutouts to help keep them out. I use TUCK tape for this on my cars. It won't keep all of the pebbles out but it will help.

Have either of you guys that have had problems tried cutting the hole open in the back of the belt guards to keep the stones from staying inside?

+1
Do the belt mods and your problems will be over. For the rear belt you also need to make a hole in the chassis just below the gear differential because stones get stucked between the chassis and diff, wearing your belt. Make it long enough so that the stones fall rather than get trapped under de diff. |
Thanks for the tips guys!!
When I get the new belts I'll do those belt mods. It is not a good design if we the people got to fix the design issues. You would think that HPI would fix this issue with so many problems with the belts, but then again, they wouldn't sell replacement parts if it was all fixed. Lynn |
