Not the best driver, but Ive run in WCIC running a LOSI XXXS and won and Tq'd, now moved over to a VBC Ghost and have had equal success.

Everyone has reasons to run what they run, half of the race game is in the mind, so no matter what you're running, if you go thinking your going to loose, you probably will.

All the possible ideas have already been applied to the tc4.2 special edition...

hey Gary
Like I said, the latest TC most likely the odd will win
VBC Ghost is not old ,it is close concept as the D07
I think the newest TC are design to make the car easy to drive and quicker to adapts most track condition ,not meaning it is better TC than old TC

Sorex 36R / yokomo rim / Team Bomber orange insert (hotter weather, so depends). Tamiya Blue, 40 wt oil. 1mm droop (uptravel), 4mm ride height. Spool front, gear diff rear. Shim all the slop out

It's not mod, but I've been on the podium consistently in USVTA with my TC5. The relatively stiff chassis plate and top deck seems to be well suited to the new CRC carpet and USVTA tires. I'm right there with the Awesomatix, Xray, newer TC6/7's, etc.

It's taken me about a year to dial in a good USVTA setup on the TC5, but it's working really well for me.

Yep, newer cars usually have a more forgiving set-up window. Making them easier to get in the zone when conditions/layouts change.

Weight is also an issue, rules allow cars to be lighter and you always want a car that is underweight so you can balance it out to get the the minimum weight for the class.

Most new models are refined for the top mod drivers aiming to battle in the worlds, these changes can help them cut a few precious tenths of a second per lap. This does however mean that it can be counter effective for club racers that race in quite different scenarios, such as with foam tyres, low grip tracks, stock motors etc

I still have a lot of my old race cars. I dug out one of my 414's a few years ago for a club meeting and if just flew around and I took the Afinal with it. The week after I was quicker with my current (at that time) car but only by about 10ish seconds faster, impressive stuff form the 414 and it could have been quicker if I had refined the set-up more.

Most cars are overbuilt for stock racing with steel parts that are only good for worlds mod racing. I estimate that most of them are 80+ grams heavier because of those steel parts...

Even old cars have to follow the weight regulations. Some are actually well under weight with the swap to lipo batteries.

Yeah I have to add a slab of lead to my pro2 and pro4 to make weight in USVTA and USGT.

Losi JRX-S and JRX-S Type R as well. I can probably make the JRX-S front motor car run at 900g if I needed to.

I'm running a tc5r I bought used and I'm right up there with the tc7.1 and 419s. I'm switching it from a usvta to a usgt setup but I know the car is still competition Now if I can get me driving skills up. Lol
