Best brushed system & best brushless system <$250
 

Okay, so I'm an electric n00b so please bear with me.

I'm debating between brushed and brushless. I already have a 19t spec motor for racing and a cheapo esc for my tc3.

I want a fast combo mainly for bashing and drifting, but with the ability to race. I would like the esc to have reverse that can be turned off for racing. Key word here: fast. If I do race with it, it won't be on a very large track (150' straight).

Please note, I'm not adept at maintaining brushed motors, nor do I know what exactly is involved in doing so, but I'm sure I could figure it out and would be willing to do so just as long as it doesn't involve buying a bunch of new equipment (how's that for a run-on sentence?).

I don't wanna spend more than around $250 for the whole setup if possible.

Would you guys recommend brushed or brushless? If so, which products specifically?

ps. for those that recommend brushless, is there are better system than the Novak combo for about the same price?

I run mostly all brushless and I don't know of another system that will fit your price range other than the novak. Possibly when Castle Creations comes out with their Mamba 80, you might be able to get that and a motor from Starluck RC and be around $250. I personally run a Schulze U-Force 75 ($250) and a Lehner basic 4200 ($140). It has a lot more torque than the novak but on a large track the power difference isn't as noticable. On a short track like the one your speak of, the power difference would be more noticable.

The problem with going fast with brushed motors is the expense and time spent using a comm lathe. The comm lathe alone could easily eat up your $250. The novak brushless is about equivalent to a 12 to 14 turn motor in my opinion. A 12 Turn will require lathe work about every 5-10 runs depending on how it is driven. Just some things to keep in mind.

the novak system will be perfect for your needs,it won't keep up on big tracks but if your a noob you won't need any faster.
