TC4 with a Shorty

I was looking at the current trend in 4wd buggies running with a shorty pack opposite of the motor. I decided to try this with my TC4. Then I want to decide if I should run it in VTA or UGST. What do you guys think?

The esc needs to be in the back so your wires can be shorter....

What are you using to hold the battery in place? Also how's the balance? As far as class VTA and USGT are both fun classes I usually see which class has more entries for the day and run that class

THE TC6.2 is out, but nearly triple the cost of a new TC4.

I've had my VTA TC4 in this configuration with the esc behind the battery for 2 seasons now and I like it. For the most part the battery drop off isn't there with the 25.5 VTA versus a 17.5 TC and it allows for better weight balance. On the track it feels a bit more nimble side to side versus using a full size pack. As far as the esc behind I needed to add weight anyway so i was able to put it around the esc to balance. The car on a tweak station is very balanced with this layout.

I've considered running a shorty pack with my TC4 VTA car. Thanks for those who have shared that info/pics.

I really like running shorty packs in all the tc classes. I don't buy into the voltage drop off that everyone complains about and I run them with no problem. I REALLY like the ability to move that much weight around and with the tc4 you can move it a lot. The only downside I've experienced is having to add a lot of weight to make weight in VTA

With a plastic tub TC4 and a driver figure in the car, I was at 1492g with standard sized servo, etc and a shorty pack.

I'm copying the 2013 Halloween classic USGT winner Ray Klebanow.

The dropoff is real. Or "was". I ran a shorty in my TC6.1 2 yearss ago 40C packs and I could never make 6 minutes the last 1-1.5 minutes was always a noticeable drop in power not only from a driver standpoint but also compared to the rest of the 7-8 cars in the heat. Whether current esc's and 60C+ shorty packs are better I can't comment since I haven't tried it on my current setup.

Is this drop off in 17.5, VTA or USGT?
