I think this is exactly what I'll do. I'm going to look in the sale thread for a 17.5T Novak motor that is compatible with the GTB. Only thing is I suck at soldering so I'm not sure how exactly I'm going to disconnect the 5.5 and hook up the new motor but I'll youtube it or something.

Sorry newb question -- can I use any brushless motor with the GTB ESC? Novak's website says, "Compatible with brushless and brushed motors" so I'm thinking yes but I want to make sure. I want to know if I can look for any 17.5T brushless or if it has to be a Novak.

Any sensored brushless motor should work, as long as it is within the specs of the ESC.

The motor does not have to be Novak, but the Novak Vulcan Spec 17.5t(12.5mm rotor) is pretty good..... Most racers run the trinity killshot, but burn them fast...lol...
Also, your 5.5t motor will be good to run mod someday, so keep it... The Gtb esc is a very fast esc for blinky(no timing) classes too ....

Ive ran a GTB with a 17.5 killshot since mid summer outdoor and all of indoor season. I ran it with an 8.5 for 2 seasons in offroad before that one of the best esc's i have. Also Associated has almost all the carbon parts for the tub tc4 in stock and the carbon chassis for 9.99 instead of 39.99 I got mine down to 1355grams rtr

I've been out of RC for a bit. What is the difference between the TC4 and TC4 club racer? Would the TC4 be a good choice over the Spec R Sport, Sakura XI Sport and Yokomo BD7 RS? My LHS supports the TC4 more, but I think A Main, TQ and a handful of other online stores support the rest. I just want the best kit for my budget. Thanks.

The TC4 difference is that the original had a front ball diff and the club racer has a spool.

I ran the TC4 all last season beating and bashing in VTA and it has been a good reliable car. I prefer local LHS support when I can get it. Mine has lots of AE parts.

Very cool. Thanks for your input. What do you have on your breakage list? How much modding did you have to do for Lipos?

I broke the steering rack once and a shock shaft. I also modded the rear body posts and put a bolt all the way through them so I could put a locknut on the other side. The body posts used to like to pull off the shock tower if I took a hit in the rear from another car.

The battery tray modding was easy. I took a Dremel cutting wheel to all of the tabs in the tray.

Well, I think you helped me out. After going through the Spec R and Sakura XI threads, I think I'm leaning towards the TC4. Thanks!

My last Associated car was a TC4. I thought for sure they were going to stop production after the TC5 showed up on the scene. So far I read that the Losi LCD's and Caster blocks will reduce chatter from the front solid diff. Has anyone made a list of mods for this thing? If so, point me to it please.

Hi All-

Just got into racing and I have an old tc4. I upgraded the tc4 from its old stock motor to a brushless setup but I would only go about half as fast as the other guys on the track because of gearing (stock gearing right now)

The guys at the track said I should get a 76 tooth spur gear and a 53 tooth pinion with 64 pitch on both. Before I buy are these the right things to get:

towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXCHWE&P=7
towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXWLK2&P=7

We race on a basketball gym floor if that matters.

I also noticed they all had tons of spur and pinion gears - is there a kit that just has a number of them so I can try different ones? Also, do I need to buy specific gears for my car or are all the brands the same size.

Thanks!

There are no more Losi LCD's, they're all gone. None for sale anywhere.

You can still get standard CVA's in steel, aluminum, and Ti.
