Help me out guys...

I'm helping a new racer get his new TC4 ready to race VTA this weekend. As soon as he said the gears I picked out for him wouldn't go together I remembered we need to modify the motor mount cam. I did this once about 4 years ago...refresh my memory what I need to do.

Thanks!

Scott

If you can get your hands on a 55t or 60t 48p Robinson spur it bolts right in and the only grinding you need to do is remove the web below the motor mount. I have used anywhere from a 35 (indoor carpet) to 41 (outdoor asphalt) tooth spur depending on the track.

I run a 76t spur with 45-50 pinions.64pitch.

Hmmm...guess I'll have to take a look at it. He wanted 48p gears so I told him to order the Robinson 55t spur (just a nick smaller diameter than a 76t/64p spur) and a 35t pinion which will put him just a shade under 4.0fdr. He says they won't come together, and I DO remember having to mod the cam to get 4.0 a few years ago (using a 78t spur?).

I'll have a look tonight. Thanks.

with a 55t spur you can run 34-47t pinions.

It seems that my tc4 is very fast on carpet(small to large) when geared from a 37t to 40t pinion , and 55t spur.... That's with a novak motor at 30 of course...

Scottrik, I had the same issue when I tried that combo. Had to go to 64p to get the ratio I wanted. If you figure out the mod please post it.

The cam mod was done when the smallest 48p gears were in the 70T+ count , now that we have gears as low as 49T the cam mod is not needed.

Only time I used 64p gears was back when vta used 21.5 motors with a 4.2fdr limit, with 64 u could get exactly 4.2

These do not belong to me but if you look close enough you will see some nice features.

Both of these cars have killed the new high dollar touring cars of today at some big ROAR races in 17.5 and Mod.

Those are sexy looking TC4s... VERY NICE! I take it the one is a FT TC4 and the other a TC4 Club Racer? (Not stock of course.)

In the hands of an experienced driver and a good setup one would have to assume?

Yes, Penguin RC chassis on the TC3.

TC4 is using TC3 rear shock tower.
Chassis is drilled out on the sides also.

I like the Penguin chassis....
